House Homeland Security Chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS) announced that he’s reached a deal with Republicans over an independent commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection.
- There will be 10 people on the commission, five appointed by Democrats and five appointed by Republicans.
- Commission members can’t be in government and must have experience in law enforcement, civil liberties and intelligence.
- The panel will have subpoena power.
- It will be disbanded at the end of the year.
