After an eighth round of voting, the House failed once again to elect a speaker.
The vote totals for the eighth round:
- Hakeem Jeffries – 212
- Kevin McCarthy – 201
- Byron Donalds – 17
- Other – 3
- Present – 1
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) voted for Donald Trump. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Rep-elect Josh Brecheen (R-OK) voted for Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK).
Once again, McCarthy made absolutely no progress. The only good news for McCarthy is that there is still no serious alternative yet.
