Proposed Deal Would Still Not Be Enough for McCarthy

A source close to Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told Reuters that a deal is on the table, but it will not be enough to take him over the line.

The deal could win over 10 to 12 holdouts.

Ten votes would get McCarthy to 210, which is not even as many as Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has received on every ballot so far, let alone close to the 218 votes needed.

About Political Wire

Taegan Goddard is the founder of Political Wire, one of the earliest and most influential political web sites. He also runs Political Job Hunt, Electoral Vote Map and the Political Dictionary.

Goddard spent more than a decade as managing director and chief operating officer of a prominent investment firm in New York City. Previously, he was a policy adviser to a U.S. Senator and Governor.
