Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced on a call with the Republican conference that he and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) have reached a deal to solve at least part of the impasse preventing McCarthy from being elected speaker, Punchbowl News reports.
It’s not clear how many votes that might sway, though early estimates were 10 to 12.
However, McCarthy later appeared to backtrack: “I’m not saying we have an agreement. I am saying we’re in a great spot.”
