Trump Campaign Sets Benchmark in Iowa

Time: “Trump’s campaign is setting its sights on a lower number than many pundits: 13. That’s how many percentage points Sen. Bob Dole defeated President George H.W. Bush in the 1988 Iowa caucuses, the most of any GOP presidential hopeful in American history.”

Said state Rep. Bobby Kaufmann (R): “He would like to break the record. Iowa has a notorious history of close caucuses. But no one’s ever won by more than 12.8.”

Also noteworthy: “Trump will visit three Iowa precinct locations Monday night as voting is underway.”

Taegan Goddard is the founder of Political Wire, one of the earliest and most influential political web sites. He also runs Political Job Hunt, Electoral Vote Map and the Political Dictionary.
