House Fails to Impeach Mayorkas

The House rejected an effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, 214 to 216.

This is another major embarrassment for Speaker Mike Johnson and the House Republican leadership.

New York Times: “It’s hard to overstate just how angry the failure of the impeachment effort is going to make ultraconservative Republicans, who have been promising this impeachment to their base since they took the majority.”

Punchbowl News: “It doesn’t mean the House won’t impeach Mayorkas on their next attempt. But for the moment, the effort to oust him failed.”
