Rep. Doug LaMalfa Is Dead

Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA), a rice farmer who served in political office in California for more than two decades, died suddenly, NBC News reports. He was 65.

Washington Post: “LaMalfa’s death further challenges the incredibly narrow House Republican majority and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who had ambitious goals for the conference to pass more of President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda in 2026.”

“House Republicans will gather with Trump on Tuesday at the Kennedy Center to discuss how they could go further than the landmark tax and immigration bill — dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill by the president — they passed last year.”
