“President Trump spoke on Wednesday with Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro and the two said they agreed to meet at the White House soon,” Axios reports.
“It was the first between the two leaders. The call was an attempt to de-escalate tensions between the U.S. and Colombia after a war of words between Trump and Petro that included threats of using military force.”
Playbook: “Trump pulled a classic 180 last night regarding the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, whom he’s spent the past week insulting and threatening with military action. But after one (presumably fawning) phone call, all is well in the world.”
Said Trump: “I appreciated his call and tone, and look forward to meeting him in the near future.”
