What’s the Real Function of ICE?

All the news about ICE this month should serve as a warning: President Trump is creating something that looks disturbingly like a paramilitary force.

Authoritarians in other countries often do this. They build units that are lavishly funded, operate outside normal police or military chains of command, are overtly partisan, and are tacitly allowed to bend or break the law.
