Mike Johnson Doesn’t Have the Votes for Tariff Measure

Punchbowl News: “House Republicans have delayed a vote on a controversial procedural resolution that would block members from challenging President Donald Trump’s tariff regime.”

“The Republican leadership is twisting itself into pretzels to pass a rule that includes language to ban members from bringing tariff disapproval resolutions to the floor until August. This is a provision that the Trump administration demanded.”

“The vote was initially scheduled for 1:30 p.m. The Republican leadership pushed it back to 8:30 p.m., a sign that they’re still short of votes. That GOP leaders have to work so hard to pass a rule — typically a party-line measure — shows just how politically sensitive tariffs have become on Capitol Hill.”
