“An appeals court ruled that Marine Le Pen is eligible to run in next year’s presidential election, despite being found guilty of misusing European Parliament funds, reviving the far-right leader’s political fortunes,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
“A panel of three judges reduced a lower court sentence from March 2025 that barred Le Pen from seeking office for five years, narrowing the effective ban to 15 months.”
“The appeals court also reduced Le Pen’s four-year prison sentence to three years. Two years of that term were suspended, judges said. They said Le Pen could serve the remaining year by using an electronic bracelet.”
