House Republicans Flame Out on the Floor Again

Punchbowl News: “House Republican leaders had to pull a veterans benefit bill after a prolonged arm-twisting session on the House floor on Thursday.”

“Four Republicans — Reps. Max Miller (Ohio), Anna Paulina Luna (Fla.), Jeff Van Drew (N.J.) and Victoria Spartz (Ind.) — voted with Democrats to recommit the bill to committee, a move that would’ve let the minority win a major procedural vote. GOP leaders were able to flip Spartz — they’re always able to do that — to win the procedural vote, but then they yanked the bill.”

“The effort to flip Republican holdouts got heated. Luna was asked to come into the speaker’s ceremonial office off the House floor with Speaker Mike Johnson and a number of other Republicans, according to multiple sources in the room.”
