Jonathan Bernstein: “I’m not so concerned with the various crosstabs about which people still support him and which do not – it’s sufficient for most things to just know that most people think he’s doing a bad job, and then for specific situations it all depends on who the key groups are. What I do think is interesting, at least, is the intensity that surveys reveal about opposition – and the lack of intensity of his support.”
“For example last week’s Economist/YouGov poll, 33/62 overall, has support split evenly between strongly approve (17%) and somewhat approve (16%), while disapproval is mostly strong (50%) against a handful of somewhat (12%). People will tell you that Trump has an unshakeable core of die-hard supporters, but it sure doesn’t show up in those numbers. What’s far more striking is that around half the nation thinks he’s doing a very bad job.”
