Did Trump Just Put South Carolina in Play?

Dan Pfeiffer: “I hoped that Darline Graham would lose last night’s South Carolina primary. Graham, who was appointed to fill out the last few months of her brother Lindsey’s term, is now running for the Republican nomination for a full six-year term.”

“Donald Trump had urged the South Carolina governor to appoint Graham and then convinced Graham, who has no experience in politics, to run for a full term. If Graham had lost a Republican primary in South Carolina of all places, it would have been a massive political rebuke…”

“However, Graham pulled out a narrow-ish win after Trump campaigned for her and had his Super PAC spend nearly a million dollars in the race. And while we don’t get to spend the morning dunking on Trump, I was rooting for the wrong outcome. I was playing checkers. It’s good that Graham won, because she is a truly terrible candidate who might just be vulnerable in the fall.”
