Jeffries Tries to Set the Stage for Party Discipline

September 2, 2026 · 7:34 am ET · Leave a Comment

“House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the Democratic leadership team announced Tuesday night that the party would probe Reps. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) and Jared Golden (D-ME) for siding with Republicans on a key rule vote on Tuesday,” Punchbowl News reports.

“This is a major step for Jeffries, House Minority Whip Katherine Clark and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, who called Golden and MGP’s action ‘a significant breach of trust.'”

“The Democratic trio is trying to set the stage for party discipline after watching the House Republican Party devolve into a consequence-free zone, where rank-and-file members defy the GOP leadership on a daily basis.”
