Sununu’s Comeback Runs Through a Very Different State

October 10, 2026 · 7:18 am ET · Leave a Comment

“If Republican John E. Sununu wins New Hampshire’s open Senate seat next month, he will return to Washington after 18 years away, the longest gap in modern U.S. history for any returning senator,” the Boston Globe reports.

“But the electoral map in New Hampshire looks nothing like it did when Sununu first won in 2002 or when he lost in 2008. Yes, New Hampshire remains a swing state, but the Donald Trump era has realigned the political landscape so thoroughly that the shifts within any one community — from red to blue and sometimes back again — can be dizzying.”

Trump Rages Over Nobel Peace Prize Loss

October 10, 2026 · 7:10 am ET · Leave a Comment

“President Trump lashed out late Friday night after he once again did not win the Nobel Peace Prize he has openly coveted,” Axios reports.

Said Trump: “I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else! In fact, to the best of my knowledge, no one ever heard of her other than the fact that she, very obviously, hates Israel. I don’t know what the woman has done.”

He added: “I settled 8 Wars, with letters being sent from every President and Prime Minister from the countries that I helped to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and I’m about to settle, or win, two more, Iran and, Russia/Ukraine.”

Elon Musk’s PAC Is Spreading Inaccurate Voting Info

October 10, 2026 · 7:06 am ET · Leave a Comment

CNN: “Election officials in Colorado and Washington state have issued public warnings about inaccurate information from the group tied to Musk, the billionaire who is spending heavily to sway the midterm elections in Republicans’ favor.”

“Third-party groups long have engaged in voter-registration drives and other outreach to voters ahead of elections, sometimes relying on out-of-date commercially available information. But the PAC’s tactics have drawn particular scrutiny, given its heavy spending and unorthodox activity in previous elections — including controversial $1 million giveaways to encourage turnout.”

Trump May Cost the GOP the Senate Again

October 10, 2026 · 7:04 am ET · Leave a Comment

“President Donald Trump might well have cost Republicans the Senate majority in both 2020 and 2022,” CNN reports.

“In the former, even Trump himself has allowed that his stolen-election crusade might have damaged turnout in the decisive Georgia runoffs. And in the latter, Trump saddled his party with a number of shoddy MAGA candidates he endorsed who went on to lose very winnable seats.”

“Could it happen again in 2026?”

“It’s certainly looking possible. And recent developments make this specter loom larger.”

October 10, 2026 · 7:01 am ET · Leave a Comment

“Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s announcement that the execution of the convicted Fort Hood mass shooter would be shown in public caught people across the Pentagon and the Army off guard,” CNN reports.

Trump Asks Justices to Revive Lawsuit Against Clinton

October 10, 2026 · 6:25 am ET · Leave a Comment

“President Donald Trump urged the Supreme Court on Friday to wade into his years long legal battle with former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and ex-Justice Department officials over the 2016 election, appealing a case that a lower court concluded was ‘frivolous,'” CNN reports.

“Trump filed the lawsuit in 2022 against Clinton, the Democratic National Committee and dozens of other people and entities he said conspired to undermine his 2016 campaign by falsely tying him to Russia.”

An Unpopular Trump Puts GOP On Its Heels

October 10, 2026 · 6:15 am ET · Leave a Comment

“Three weeks from Election Day, deep frustration over an economy that feels unworkable for Americans at most every level, from farmers to truckers to consumers, has expanded the map of competitive electoral contests into areas that seemed safely Republican just a couple of months ago,” the New York Times reports.

“Sustained high prices are putting at risk some of the constituencies, states and congressional districts that President Trump and Republicans won decisively in 2024. The widespread discontent has prompted candidates, parties and major GOP fund-raising groups to shift their messages and ad spending in crucial races to try to move voters in the final days of the midterm campaign.”

Trump Showers Voters with Checks and Tax Relief

October 10, 2026 · 6:09 am ET · Leave a Comment

“With less than one month until the midterm elections, President Donald Trump keeps trying to find ways to directly benefit voters to ease affordability concerns at the heart of the midterm elections,” the Washington Post reports.

”Last week, Trump began sending $500 checks to nearly 1 million Americans in 30 states as a refund for Affordable Care Act fees he said were overcharged under President Joe Biden, along with a letter touting his record.”

”Two days later, he announced plans to send $90 payments to more than 20 million seniors. The checks were intended to offset October Medicare premiums, Trump wrote in an email accompanying the payments that listed the administration’s other health care policies.”

Could the Oregon Governor’s Race Be a Republican Hope?

October 10, 2026 · 6:02 am ET · Leave a Comment

“National Republicans, facing stiff headwinds in some of the most conservative parts of the country, see a ray of hope in an unlikely state: Oregon,” the New York Times reports.

“With Oregon’s ballots set to hit the mail next week, Gov. Tina Kotek’s quest for re-election in one of the country’s most consistently liberal states is at risk of being derailed by a conservative, anti-abortion Republican, State Senator Christine Drazan.”

“Conservatives are not exactly surging statewide in the land of protest frogs and craft beer. But Ms. Kotek, a first-term Democratic governor, has managed to become almost as unpopular among her constituents as President Trump, whom they denounce routinely on the streets.”

Montana Democrat Won’t Step Aside for Independent

October 10, 2026 · 6:00 am ET · Leave a Comment

“Her candidacy was boosted with mysterious dark money. Some of her own party have suggested she is a ‘Republican plant’ running a fake campaign. Still, Democrat Alani Bankhead continues to crisscross Montana in a gray Subaru in her long-shot bid to be the state’s next U.S. senator,” the Washington Post reports.

”In the weeks since she refused to step aside to make way for an independent opponent who is more popular with many Democrats, Bankhead said she has been personally threatened and vilified for standing in the way of potential historic change in the Senate.”
