President Trump said that the U.S. military had conducted a large bombing raid on Kharg Island, a key port and Iran’s oil export hub, the New York Times reports.
Trump said the raid had “totally obliterated” military forces on the island, but that he had directed the Pentagon not to damage its oil infrastructure, “for reasons of decency.”
Axios says the White House has been considering a ground operation to take over the island as one of many options presented by the Pentagon ahead of the war with Iran.

“A Cabinet shake up and vacant Senate seat drove Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt to attempt to patch up his relationship with President Donald Trump,” Politico reports.
“When Stitt sat down with Trump Thursday at the White House, the governor’s first priority was clearing the air between the two Republicans after recent tensions over White House invitations to the nation’s governors. Stitt brought up mending the relationship and Trump was receptive to it.”

President Trump on Friday tempered his call for Iranians to rise up against their rulers, acknowledging that they would be gunned down for trying, the New York Times reports.
Trump said there are government forces in Iran that “go around with machine guns. And they say, ‘Anybody protests, we’re going to kill you in the street!’”
He added: “So I really think that’s a big hurdle to climb for people that don’t have weapons.”
Trump Locks Kristi Noem Out
Rachel Bade: “A week after ousting his Homeland Security secretary, President Donald Trump has made it clear to staff and associates: Kristi Noem is not welcome.”
“The president has told confidants and staff that he doesn’t want to see Noem. The former secretary or her team have been informed in recent days that she is not on the guest list for a couple of events at the White House, including Thursday’s Women’s History Month celebration, as well as today’s event for rodeo champions.”
Trump to Replace Ric Grenell as Head of Kennedy Center
CNN: “Grenell’s tenure as interim president of the Kennedy Center since February 2025 has been marked by tumult, plagued by high-profile performance cancellations, protests, declining ticket sales and financial strain as he sought to execute the president’s vision for the arts center.”
“Despite earlier warmth between Trump and Grenell, a longtime loyalist who has served in various roles across the president’s two terms in office, the president had become frustrated with a slew of negative headlines about his revamp of the arts institution.”

The Republican Party’s Nazi Problem Is Getting Worse
John Avlon: “Not so long ago, hugging Hitler was one of those lines you just didn’t cross in a decent democracy, and for good reason: fascism, the Second World War and genocide. Murdering millions of humans should never inspire admiration.”
“But that’s what’s been happening with increasing regularity, revealed by a recent string of unhinged text chains revealed among young Republican leaders. This isn’t an outlier or a one-off. It’s a pattern and a problem.”

While it plays a crucial role in sterilizing lifesaving medical devices like pacemakers and syringes, long-term exposure can cause leukemia and other types of cancer among people who work in or live near medical sterilization facilities.”
