A new Emerson College survey finds Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump nationally in a multi-candidate race among likely voters, 49% to 47% support.

On the generic congressional ballot, 48% support the Democratic candidate while 44% support the Republican candidate. 

Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA), who represents the district where a school shooting took place yesterday, said that “it’s not the time to talk about” gun control.

Instead, Collins said it’s time for prayer: “People are holding up because they have a strong faith in God. Prayers are being lifted up. I just encourage everybody out there – please, just continue to pray for those who didn’t get to make it home yesterday… It’s times like this that your faith really comes into play.”

“Vice President Kamala Harris’ political operation raised more than $300 million in the month of August — more than twice as much as former President Donald Trump’s operation gathered in the same period,” NBC News reports.

A new AARP poll in Montana finds Sen. Jon Tester (D) trails challenger Tim Sheehy (R) by six points in a head-to-head ballot, 51% to 45%.

In the presidential race, Donald Trump is leading Kamala Harris by 16 points, 56% to 41%.

If Tester loses, Democrats would need to pick up another seat — possibly in Florida or Texas — and win the presidency to keep control of the Senate.

William Kristol: “That Cheney would endorse Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election isn’t surprising. But most observers expected her to wait to do so until later in September.”

“But Cheney wasn’t being impulsive. She didn’t accidentally blurt out an endorsement whose debut had been planned for later. She knows that we are at a crucial moment in the campaign, after the Democratic convention and before next week’s debate. Harris has pulled even in the contest, but it’s on a razor’s edge. And some conservatives and Republicans—like former Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey earlier this week—have had the decency to shun Trump but are nonetheless shying away from endorsing Harris.”

“Cheney thinks sitting out the contest is a fundamental mistake and an unwitting evasion of responsibility. She believes now is the time to step up and help other conservatives and Republicans understand why they need to get off the bench when there’s so much at stake.”

NPR: “A source familiar with the event said the cemetery staff worked with the staff of Republican Congressman Brian Mast of Florida, who joined Trump at Arlington. Arlington Cemetery staff dealt directly with Mast’s chief of staff, James Langenderfer, briefing him extensively on the rules, which include no campaign events at the cemetery.”

“They also reiterated that only an official Arlington National Cemetery photographer — and no campaign photographer — could be used at Section 60. The source said Langenderfer told them the Trump campaign agreed to these rules.”

Meghan McCain revealed on her podcast that she’s turned down “Dancing with the Stars” on three separate occasions.

Said McCain: “I’ve been asked to do ‘Dancing With the Stars’ three times, and I said no each time, because I just don’t want to publicly humiliate myself.”

She added: “I do not do reality TV, because there’s still a tiny little window in my life that I want to run for office at some point, and you can’t do both. You just can’t. It’s just not serious.”

Donald Trump’s campaign sent an email out to its entire staff warning them not to communicate with the press in the next two months before the presidential election in November, NBC News reports.
