Andrew Cuomo Says He Regrets Resigning

February 7, 2022 at 10:09 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) told Bloomberg that if he had to do it all over, he wouldn’t have resigned.

Said Cuomo: “I never resigned because I said I did something wrong. I said, I’m resigning because I don’t want to be a distraction.”

“During the interview, Cuomo studiously deflected questions about his political future, repeatedly changing the subject to his sense of anger and betrayal over the probe… He said he can’t begin to talk about his political future until he’s gotten some measure of closure on the Attorney General’s report, preferring instead to re-litigate the details of the accusations against him and the credibility of his accusers.”

How Andrew Cuomo Survived Calls for Resignation

April 19, 2021 at 2:28 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “He and his advisers huddled to discuss how other Democratic leaders had responded to scandals in recent years… Mr. Franken, of Minnesota, resigned in early 2018 but later expressed regret over the decision.”

“Mr. Cuomo and his team also examined the case of Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat who declined to resign in 2019 after yearbook pictures allegedly showed him in blackface.”

“The discussions set the stage for the weeks ahead: no matter what other lawmakers said or what else came at them, the governor wouldn’t resign. He would shore up support where it existed and show the public that he was still working.”

March 10, 2021 at 12:03 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) continued to urge for an investigation to be concluded before making any decision on whether Gov. Andrew Cuomo should stay in office amid sexual harassment allegations, USA Today reports.

“And the Democratic senator, who was the first to call for Sen. Al Franken’s resignation in 2017 amid sexual harassment claims, said she resents the fact that women in leadership have to be asked every day about whether someone in hot water should resign.”

Said Gillibrand: “Asking every female elected in our state when a person should resign or not resign really isn’t the conversation we should be having.”

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) defiantly rebuffed calls for his resignation as more women have come forward with sexual harassment allegations against him, saying Sunday “there is no way” he will step down, CBS News reports.

Cuomo Facing a Political Extinction Event

March 3, 2021 at 7:34 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Magazine: “Governor Andrew Cuomo sounded defeated, senior officials who had spoken with him said. It seemed to be getting to him that the usual strategic plays were suddenly no longer working… The normally efficient governor’s office had been spinning out of control ever since a bombshell New York Times story broke the prior evening detailing how Cuomo had made a series of inappropriate comments to Charlotte Bennett, a young female aide, including asking her if she had ever had sex with older men and if she was monogamous in relationships.”

Said one former adviser: “They are panicking.”

Said another Cuomo ally: “The problem he has right now is that everybody hates him.”

Insider: Impeachment is “almost unprecedented” in New York, but calls for Cuomo to resign are growing among Democrats.

The Andrew Cuomo Show Has Lost the Plot

February 24, 2021 at 12:30 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Alex Pareene: “The press often describes him berating and threatening his ostensible political allies in the Democratic Party, notes that he seemingly faces no electoral penalty for doing so, and concludes that that kind of behavior is baked into his appeal as a politician. People have been reading stories about it for years, and they keep electing him anyway: Maybe they actually like it.”

“This is, I think, a misreading of Cuomo’s political appeal and strategy, and misses what has made his recent round of terrible press so interesting. What is happening now is that fans of Andrew Cuomo the television character are being introduced to Andrew Cuomo the newspaper character.”

Lawmaker Said Cuomo Threatened to ‘Destroy’ Him

February 17, 2021 at 2:45 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Assemblyman Ron Kim (D), one of the few Democratic lawmakers willing to criticize Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) for his handling of the state’s nursing homes during the pandemic, said the governor threatened to “destroy” him unless he took back his criticism, the New York Times reports.

Said Kim: “He goes off about how I hadn’t seen his wrath and anger, that he would destroy me and he would go out tomorrow and start telling how bad of a person I am and I would be finished and how he had bit his tongue about me for months. This was all yelling. It wasn’t a pleasant tone.”

“Mr. Cuomo made good on his threat on Wednesday afternoon. In a remarkable retort, the governor used his press briefing to lob allegations of impropriety at the assemblyman.”
