Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA), “who narrowly won the closest congressional race in the nation last fall, will not seek reelection next year, all but ensuring his rapidly-diversifying suburban House district will become one of the country’s fiercest political battlegrounds in 2020,” the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA) barely survived his re-election against Carolyn Bourdeaux (D), prevailing in a recount two weeks after Election Day, Roll Call reports.

“The Democrat challenging Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA) has filed an official request for a recount with state election officials after certified results show her trailing by only a few hundred votes,” the AP reports.

“Carolyn Bourdeaux (D) submitted the request to the Georgia secretary of state’s office Tuesday, saying the razor-thin margin in the race for the Atlanta-area 7th District seat deserves a second count.”

Stuart Rothenberg: “Jon Ossoff’s defeat would not tell us what will happen seventeen months from now in the 2018 midterms any more than Republican Tim Burns’ defeat in a 2010 Pennsylvania special election presaged that year’s midterm outcome nationally. And it probably wouldn’t impact Democratic recruiting much or dry up fund raising for very long.”

“But a Democratic loss would have a significant impact on the political narrative of the summer and early fall, right up to November’s gubernatorial contests in New Jersey and Virginia. And another special election defeat, in an upscale district that did not embrace Donald Trump the way districts in Kansas and Montana did, would lead to another round of finger-pointing and self-flagellation by Democrats still consumed by their 2016 defeat.”

Washington Post: “It is an arms race of money and organization. The latest fundraising report, filed Thursday, showed Ossoff raising an additional $15 million in the past two months, nearly quadruple what Handel brought in. With outside groups weighing in, the race has thus far cost more than $40 million — far outpacing the previous record for a congressional race of nearly $30 million for a Florida contest in 2012.”

“Polls indicate there are few voters still undecided. ‘The next 10 days are about turning out the base. There are more of us than them in the district. The more people who vote, the better,’ said Corry Bliss, who heads the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC affiliated with House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-WI). That organization alone plans to spend about $7 million in the race.”
