The DSCC announced they’re going in with a seven-figure investment to help Jaime Harrison (D) in the South Carolina U.S. Senate race, according to the Cook Political Report.
Jaime Harrison Raises $1 Million In Less Than 24 Hours
Jaime Harrison (D) announced that he raised $1 million within a day after a poll found him tied with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) the U.S. Senate race in South Carolina.
Lincoln Project Looks to Take Down Lindsey Graham
Many of The Lincoln Project’s founders had ties to the late Sen. John McCain. So when it comes to their latest ad — a devastating attack on Sen. Lindsey Graham — they admit to the National Journal that “this one was personal.”
South Carolina Senate Race Now Competitive
Cook Political Report: “While there are still large hurdles that remain for Harrison to become the first Democrat elected to the Senate from South Carolina since 1998, it’s clear this race is becoming more competitive, and Graham faces an incredibly strong challenge.”
“In the races in our Likely Republican column, this is also the one some national Republicans view as the more competitive. We are moving South Carolina from Likely to Lean Republican.”
Lindsey Graham In Tight Race for Reelection
A new Morning Consult poll in South Carolina finds Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) barely ahead of challenger Jaime Harrison (D), 44% to 43%.
Lindsey Graham Distances Himself from Trump
“Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has publicly opposed President Trump five times in the past few weeks — including a new rebuke Monday — an unusual torrent of dissent from one of the president’s top allies in Washington just months before the South Carolina Republican faces a tough reelection challenge,” the Columbia State reports.
David Wasserman: “When even Lindsey Graham starts repudiating Trump, you know it’s… oh wait, he just made it through his primary and was willing to say anything to survive all along because he doesn’t have a life outside of being a senator. This isn’t hard, folks.”
Lindsey Graham’s Words Used Against Him
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) gushes in a new ad that Joe Biden is “as good a man as God ever created” — while President Trump is a “xenophobic, race-baiting, religious bigot.”
The ad will run on Fox News in the Charlotte and Greenville markets, reaching both South Carolina and the swing state of North Carolina, the HuffPost reports.
It will also air on Fox News in Washington, D.C.
Graham’s Embrace of Trump Was Smart Politics
New York Times: “Even as Lindsey Graham faces a determined and well-financed challenger, his strategy may pay off. In ruby-red South Carolina, he has stuck close to the Republican president, who is likely to win the state in the general election…”
“Privately, some Democratic officials admit that while Mr. Graham’s conservative turn may be off-putting in some parts of South Carolina, it’s smart politics in a statewide race. Early public polling indicates that Jaime Harrison still has an uphill climb, and Mr. Graham has a slight advantage.”
South Carolina GOP Holds In-Person Event
At a South Carolina event, attended by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Tim Scott (R-SC), “there were few masks and no social distancing — and that was the point,” the New York Times reports.
“Speakers shared the same microphone. Local and state political candidates greeted voters with handshakes and squeezed tight for pictures. Of all the people gathered outside the county Republican office — many of them senior citizens — fewer than a dozen wore masks.”
“The event was an active rejection of behavior that the hyper-conservative crowd has come to associate with liberal enemies in recent months — wearing masks and gloves, staying six feet away from other people, avoiding physical touch.”
Democrats Form Super PAC to Oust Lindsey Graham
“A group of Democratic operatives are launching a super PAC to defeat Sen. Lindsey Graham as liberals try to expand the Senate map to include South Carolina,” Politico reports.
“The organization, called ‘Lindsey Must Go,’ say they have over $1 million in commitments and plan to raise at least $4 million through both large- and small-dollar donations.”
Big Lindsey Graham Donor Now Backs Challenger
Richard Wilkerson, a prominent donor to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), writes in the Greenville News that he supported the senator until 2017 when he “started having real misgivings about him when he failed to mount any significant defense” of the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who President Trump frequently attacked.
Said Wilkerson: “I asked myself, ‘What is the character of a man who will not defend his best friend? If he won’t defend John McCain, why would I expect him to defend any of us in South Carolina?'”
Wilkerson is now endorsing Jamie Harrison (D) for Graham’s seat.
Democratic Challenger Outraises Lindsey Graham
Democratic Senate candidate Jamie Harrison outpaced Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) in fundraising during the first three months of 2020, The Hill reports.
“Harrison raised more than $7.3 million in the first quarter of the year… Graham’s campaign also surpassed previous fundraising highs and raised $5.6 million, bringing the senator’s total cash on-hand to $12.8 million…. Harrison has a little more than $8 million on-hand.”
Lindsey Graham Hauls In Record $3.9 Million
“Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) raised $3.9 million for his reelection bid in the fourth quarter of 2019, a total that his campaign said represents the largest single-quarter fundraising haul in South Carolina history,” The Hill reports.
Graham Leads By 7 Points In South Carolina
A new Change Research poll in South Carolina finds Jaime Harrison (D) trails Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) by just 7 percentage points in the U.S. Senate race — a surprisingly slim margin given the demographics of a state that elected President Trump by nearly 14 percentage points in 2016.
Graham Moves to Lock Out Primary Challengers
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) “does not yet have a viable primary challenger — and the South Carolina Republican intends to keep it that way,” McClatchy reports.
“On Wednesday, the incumbent U.S. senator’s campaign announced that every Republican in the state’s congressional delegation is endorsing Graham for re-election in 2020… This announcement follows Graham’s rollout last week of endorsements from every Republican statewide elected constitutional officer.”
“The endorsements signal that Graham’s support his strong inside his party, giving him a comfort with his base he has not typically enjoyed in previous election cycles.”
Lindsey Graham Gets a Challenger
Jaime Harrison, the former chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party, told MSNBC that he will announce Wednesday his Senate bid against Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC).
Lindsey Graham Kicks Off Re-Election Bid
Washington Post: “Twenty months before voters head to the polls, Graham is starting his campaign for a fourth Senate term early — and doing everything he can to link himself to the president. For Graham, the full embrace of Trump is, in part, an effort to stave off primary challengers, particularly someone who could be tempted to run against him as a Trump-style insurgent.”
Graham’s Approval Up Sharply In South Carolina
A new Winthrop poll in South Carolina finds Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) stature has “steadily risen” among state Republicans since becoming a close and vocal ally of President Trump.
Graham’s 74% approval rating among Republicans is up 23 points from April 2018 and is now even with Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC).
