A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that 56% of Americans — including 31% of Democrats — disagree with the FBI’s recommendation against charging Hillary Clinton with a crime for her State Department e-mail practices.

State Department Reopens Clinton Emails Probe
“The State Department is reopening an internal investigation of possible mishandling of classified information by Hillary Clinton and top aides,” the AP reports.
“Although the former secretary of state’s closest confidants have left the agency, they could still face punishment. The most serious is the loss of security clearances, which could complicate her aides’ hopes of securing top positions on her national security team if she becomes president.”
Bill Clinton’s Very Bad Judgment
Ryan Lizza: “If Bill Clinton was trying even subtly to influence the investigation, his attempt has backfired spectacularly. The disclosure of the meeting has raised questions about the integrity of the investigation. Lynch’s promise to accept without modification the recommendations of the F.B.I. has removed a potentially sympathetic voice from the process. And the enormous publicity over the event will increase the pressure on investigators not to show any leniency in the case. Whatever Bill Clinton thought he was doing, he has cast a pall over what should have been his wife’s most triumphant moment in politics.”
Bill Clinton Hands the GOP a New Talking Point
Rick Klein: “What the heck were they thinking? Maybe they weren’t – and that’s the problem, of course. At the very least, the fact that a private meeting occurred between Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton was the product of a series of major errors in judgment. The former president and his team made a massive political error – an utterly unforced one – in not realizing how such an encounter, even a brief one, would be perceived in the summer of an election year. The attorney general and her team miscalculated the optics and perhaps the legality of the situation in allowing any such discussion, when everyone knows the FBI in the midst of an investigation of Hillary Clinton’s handling of her emails.”
“Lynch’s announcement that she would defer to the FBI’s recommendations on the case doesn’t resolve anything. (In what scenario would it have been alright for her to insert her judgment for the FBI’s?) Donald Trump gets a new and powerful talking point. Bill Clinton again shows how his immense value can easily be outweighed in the other direction. And Clinton campaign staffers in Brooklyn have every right to be as upset with all of this as career prosecutors in Washington.”
Lynch Will Accept FBI Advice on Clinton Email Probe
Attorney General Loretta Lynch “plans to announce on Friday that she will accept whatever recommendation career prosecutors and the F.B.I. director make about whether to bring charges related to Hillary Clinton’s personal email server,” the New York Times reports.
“Her decision removes the possibility that a political appointee will overrule investigators in the case.”
“The Justice Department had been moving toward such an arrangement for months — officials said in April that it was being considered — but a private meeting between Ms. Lynch and former President Bill Clinton this week set off a political furor and made the decision all but inevitable.”
Clinton’s Top Aide Frustrated by Use of Private Email
“A top aide to Hillary Clinton said the former secretary of state’s use of a private e-mail server to conduct government business on at least one occasion got in the way of Clinton’s work and left the aide frustrated,” Bloomberg reports.
“Huma Abedin, Clinton’s deputy chief of staff and now the vice chair of her presidential campaign, was being deposed about the context of a November 2010 e-mail she sent Clinton that they ‘should talk about putting you on state email or releasing your email address to the department so you are not going to spam.’ Prompting the note, according to the e-mail chain released last week by the State Department under the Freedom of Information Act, was a missed scheduled phone call, one of a number of communications mishaps detailed in Clinton’s 55,000-page e-mail record.”
Bill Clinton Met Privately with Attorney General
“Amid an ongoing investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of email and hours before the public release of the Benghazi report, Attorney General Loretta Lynch met privately with former President Bill Clinton,” ABC 15 in Arizona reports.
“The private meeting took place on the west side of Sky Harbor International Airport on board a parked private plane.”
Clinton Story on Emails Gets Harder to Believe
Washington Post: “The latest batch of emails suggest that Clinton’s filter to decide between the personal and the professional was far from foolproof. That these emails never saw the light of day before Monday — or before a conservative legal advocacy group petitioned for their release — opens up the possibility that there are plenty more like them that Clinton chose to delete but shouldn’t have. And it provides more fodder for the Republican argument that Clinton appointing herself as judge, jury and executioner for her emails was, at best, a very, very bad decision and, at worst, something more nefarious than just bad judgment.”
Benghazi Committee Releases Final Report
“Later this morning House Republicans on the Benghazi Select Committee will release their long-awaited report on the events surrounding the 2012 Benghazi terror attacks that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans,” ABC News reports.
“According to a committee member and staff who have seen it, the report says there was intelligence leading up to the attacks that the diplomatic consulate and CIA annex there were not safe, and that top officials in the U.S. State Department, including Hillary Clinton, should have realized that.”
More Deleted Clinton Emails Surface
“Another 165 pages of emails from Hillary Clinton’s time at the State Department surfaced Monday, including nearly three dozen that the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee failed to hand over last year that were sent through her private server,” the AP reports.
“The latest emails were released under court order by the State Department to the conservative legal advocacy group Judicial Watch. The batch includes 34 new emails Clinton exchanged through her private account with her deputy chief of staff, Huma Abedin. The aide, who also had a private email account on Clinton’s home server, later gave her copies to the government.”
Trump Explores Clinton’s ‘Legendary Lies’
Donald Trump launched a 10-part video series outlining what he calls “legendary lies” told by democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.
Clinton Failed to Hand Over Key Email
“Hillary Clinton failed to turn over a copy of a key message involving problems caused by her use of a private homebrew email server, the State Department confirmed Thursday,” the AP reports.
“The disclosure makes it unclear what other work-related emails may have been deleted by the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.”
State Department Disabled Security for Clinton Emails
“State Department staffers wrestled for weeks in December 2010 over a serious technical problem that affected emails from then-Secretary Hillary Clinton’s home email server, causing them to temporarily disable security features on the government’s own systems,” the AP reports.
“The emails… show that State Department technical staff disabled software on their systems intended to block phishing emails that could deliver dangerous viruses. They were trying urgently to resolve delivery problems with emails sent from Clinton’s private server.”
Ex-Secret Service Agent’s Book Differs from His Testimony
“Gary Byrne, a former Secret Service agent who worked in Bill Clinton’s White House, tells a dramatic story in his upcoming book about how he personally helped a White House steward dispose of towels stained by semen and lipstick to protect the president from a sex scandal.”
“That story, as well as another Byrne tells about walking in on Bill Clinton making out with a TV journalist, is different from what he told investigators from Kenneth Starr’s Office of the Independent Counsel in 1998, a BuzzFeed News review of interviews, depositions, and grand jury testimony has found.”
Trump Prepares ‘Charge Sheet’ Against Clinton
“Donald Trump’s team is hunkering down to draft the charge sheet the presumptive GOP nominee will unveil against Hillary Clinton on Monday, intent on laying out a credible general election argument that leads voters to question her trustworthiness,” Politico reports.
“But many Republicans worry that the former reality TV star’s penchant for focusing on the Clintons’ personal lives and scandals of years past — he declared them ‘fair game’ months ago as he bulldozed to the finish line of a Republican primary — could undermine the more disciplined case party leaders have been making against Clinton for a year — that the Democrat’s email controversy and actions in Benghazi show she is too irresponsible to be commander in chief.”
Roger Clinton Arrested in California
“Hillary Clinton’s brother-in-law is sitting in a jail cell after getting busted for DUI in Southern California … just 2 days before the crucial California primary vote,” TMZ reports.
Clinton Insists Again Her Private Email Was Allowed
Hillary Clinton doubled down on defending her email practices as Secretary of State, arguing that the use of a personal account was “allowed, and rules have since been “clarified,” ABC News reports.
Said Clinton: “This report makes clear that personal email use was the practice for other secretaries of state. It was allowed. And the rules have been clarified since I left.”
“Yesterday, a report released by the State Department’s Office of Inspector General said that Clinton shouldn’t have used a private email server to conduct official business and would have not been allowed to do so had she asked. It also found that she should have turned over emails after her tenure and violated department policy.”
New York Times: Emails add to Clinton’s central problem: Voters don’t trust her.
Vince Foster’s Sister Responds
Sheila Foster Anthony: “It is beyond contempt that a politician would use a family tragedy to further his candidacy, but such is the character of Donald Trump displayed in his recent comments to The Washington Post. In this interview, Trump cynically, crassly and recklessly insinuated that my brother, Vincent W. Foster Jr., may have been murdered because ‘he had intimate knowledge of what was going on’ and that Hillary Clinton may have somehow played a role in Vince’s death.”
“How wrong. How irresponsible. How cruel.”
