The One Issue That Splits Trump From His Base

November 13, 2025 · 7:34 am ET · Leave a Comment

Karen Tumulty: “The MAGA base has had little trouble looking the other way when it comes to Donald Trump’s trampling of norms and ethical standards: the coarseness; the indictments; the retribution against his enemies; the self-enrichment while in office; the unprecedented claims of executive power.”

“His administration’s handling of information regarding the horrific crimes of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is different. Bringing to light what lies within the Justice Department’s so-called Epstein files is the most persistent issue to have driven a deep wedge into the president’s base — to the point where some who embrace the MAGA label have even been willing to make common cause with Democrats.”

Does the Epstein Story Matter?

November 13, 2025 · 7:29 am ET · Leave a Comment

Playbook: “There are real-world ramifications of this story exploding back onto the agenda. The White House did not want to spend yesterday talking about Epstein, does not want to spend today talking about Epstein — does not want to spend any more days talking about Epstein. It’s awkward, uncomfortable, distracting subject matter that Trump’s team would like to put to bed.”

“And that’s not going to happen, at least not yet.”

Epstein Claimed He Could Take Trump Down

November 12, 2025 · 9:39 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“President Trump’s long friendship with Jeffrey Epstein came to an apparent end in the mid-2000s. But Mr. Epstein remained intently focused on Mr. Trump for years afterward, seeking to exploit the remnants of their relationship up until his arrest on federal sex-trafficking charges in 2019,” the New York Times reports.

“In more than 20,000 pages of Mr. Epstein’s typo-strewn emails and other messages released by a congressional committee on Wednesday, Mr. Epstein insulted Mr. Trump and hinted that he had damaging information on him.”

Washington Post: Epstein wrote that Trump knew of sexual abuse but didn’t participate.

Epstein Bantered Regularly With Larry Summers

November 12, 2025 · 4:49 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“A series of exchanges between Jeffrey Epstein and Lawrence Summers, the former Treasury Secretary, suggest a far cozier and intimate relationship than was previously known,” the New York Times reports.

“Emails between the two were released Wednesday by House Republicans, along with more than 20,000 pages of documents. They show the two men bantering, sometimes multiple times a day.”

The Epstein Scandal Comes for Trump

Charlie Sykes: “Trump has boasted (not without reason) that he could shoot someone and not lose any votes. He attempted a coup and was re-elected; was convicted of felonies and was returned to power; was found liable for sexually abusing a woman and won a second term.”

“But there’s something about the Epstein Files that has spooked him. And we may be about to find out why.”

Trump Officials Call Meeting Over House Epstein Vote

November 12, 2025 · 12:53 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“Top Trump administration officials were planning to meet Wednesday about an effort in the US House to force a vote on releasing Justice Department case files related to Jeffrey Epstein,” CNN reports.

“One of the sources said the planned meeting would include Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, FBI Director Kash Patel and Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, who has wanted the Justice Department to release their trove of Epstein files and has signed onto the effort in the US House to force the vote compelling their release.”

Democrats Dropped a Perfectly Timed Epstein Bomb

Time: “The timing could not have been any worse for Republicans—or better for Democrats, who are in the midst of their own internal row over the decision by a handful of Senate colleagues to help Republicans end the government shutdown.”

“The Epstein disclosures, led by Rep. Robert Garcia of California, the ranking Democrat on House Oversight, are obviously going to bump the intra-party fight for Democrats out of the spotlight and refocus talks on Trump’s connections to Epstein and his tawdry business of underaged girls, sex, private islands, and star-studded jets.”

White House Claims Virginia Giuffre Is Unnamed ‘Victim’

November 12, 2025 · 12:48 pm ET · Leave a Comment

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Time the victim’s name blacked out in two of the emails from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate released by House Democrats on Wednesday is Virginia Giuffre.

Said Leavitt: “The Democrats selectively leaked emails to the liberal media to create a fake narrative to smear President Trump. The ‘unnamed victim’ referenced in these emails is the late Virginia Giuffre, who repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing whatsoever and ‘couldn’t have been friendlier’ to her in their limited interactions.”

What Does Ghislaine Maxwell Know?

November 12, 2025 · 10:00 am ET · Leave a Comment

Edward Luce: “As sex offenders go, Ghislaine Maxwell is in a category of one. Having been upgraded from a penitentiary to a prison camp — the equivalent of moving from a Travelodge to a Trump hotel — the late Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking co-conspirator seems to be getting what she wants. A commutation from Trump could follow.”

“What has Maxwell done to deserve this? The answer is a known unknown. Maxwell has said she never saw Trump ‘in any inappropriate setting.’ We also know that his administration is showering her with benefits. The unknown is why anyone would see this as acceptable.”

Jeffrey Epstein Alleged Trump Knew of His Conduct

November 12, 2025 · 8:59 am ET · Leave a Comment

House Democrats released emails in which Jeffrey Epstein wrote that President Trump had “spent hours at my house” with one of Epstein’s victims, among other messages that suggested that the convicted sex offender believed Trump knew more about his abuse than he has acknowledged, the New York Times reports.

In one of the messages, Epstein flatly asserted that Trump “knew about the girls,” many of whom were later found by investigators to have been underage.

In another, Epstein pondered how to address questions from the news media about their relationship as Trump was becoming a national political figure.

CNN: Epstein mentioned Trump multiple times in private emails.

The release dropped just hours before the discharge petition secured its 218th signature — enough to force a vote on making the Epstein files public.

The Epstein Scandal Humbles the British Monarchy

Nick Cohen: “Not one of the powerful American men who flattered Jeffrey Epstein has been punished by the U.S. authorities – which, considering that Donald Trump was prominent among them, is no great surprise.”

“But tonight, the Epstein scandal has humiliated Prince Andrew and forced the British monarchy to face up to the charges against him.”

“Under pressure from public opinion and I suspect the government, King Charles has just stripped him of all his royal titles. He is no longer ‘Prince Andrew’ but merely Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. In the unlikely event of bumping into him you can now call him ‘Mr Windsor.'”

JPMorgan Alerted U.S. to Epstein Transfers

“Weeks after Jeffrey Epstein died in federal custody in 2019 awaiting prosecution on sex-trafficking charges, JPMorgan Chase filed a report alerting the U.S. government to tens of millions of dollars of potentially suspicious transactions involving him and prominent Wall Street and business figures,” the New York Times reports.

“The so-called suspicious activity report that JPMorgan filed identified transactions with Leon Black, the co-founder of private equity firm Apollo Global Management; Glenn Dubin, a well-known hedge fund manager; the lawyer Alan Dershowitz; and trusts controlled by Leslie Wexner, the retail tycoon.”
