A new Pew Research survey finds that Democratic and Democratic-leaning registered voters want the Democratic Party to move in a more moderate than more liberal direction, 53% to 40%.
In contrast, most Republicans want to see their party move in a more conservative direction. Fifty-eight percent of Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters say they want the GOP to move in a more conservative direction, compared with 38% who want it to move in a more moderate direction.
