Democrats Lean Into ‘Trump Is a Crook’ Messaging

August 17, 2026 · 7:36 am ET · Leave a Comment

Punchbowl News: “Jeffries leaning heavily into the ‘Democrats will fight Trump-GOP corruption’ line. Republicans are hammering the ‘Democrats are communists’ message (more on that below), which makes the Democratic response — alongside ‘Trump is failing on the economy’ — worth tracking.”

Said Jeffries: “That means us, House Democrats, lowering the high cost of living in areas like groceries, and gas, and of course housing and fighting to make healthcare affordable for every single American while, at the same period of time, pushing back against the corruption that has been unleashed on the American people and holding the crooks accountable beginning on day one in January of next year.”

“This is a line that Jeffries has used before, yet it’s becoming more central to Democratic messaging every day.”
