Cindy McCain Sees No ‘Voice of Reason’ In the GOP

August 21, 2019 at 9:31 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Cindy McCain told ABC News that no one in the Republican Party has become the party’s “voice of reason” after her husband’s death last year.

Said McCain: “That was a tough torch to carry and, as John said, there were many lonely days because he always said what was on his mind. I don’t see anybody carrying that mantle at all, I don’t see anyone carrying the voice — the voice of reason.”

Cindy McCain told CBS News that “one or two” of her children might have political aspirations like their father, the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).

Said McCain: “There are two I know that won’t, but there’s two that I think will.”

She declined to name which of their four children (John McCain had three other children from a previous marriage), but added: “They’ve all grown up in politics. It’s hard not to – you either catch the bug or you don’t.”

Cindy McCain Not Seen as Likely to Replace Her Husband

August 26, 2018 at 9:12 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “Arizona Republicans are skeptical Mr. Ducey would pick Mr. McCain’s widow, in part because of questions about whether she would want to seek the nomination in 2020, but also because it could anger the pro-Trump voters that the governor will need to win in November. To those voters, Ms. McCain would almost certainly be viewed as too politically moderate.”

Cindy McCain, the wife of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), is expected to be offered a prominent role in the Trump administration’s State Department, the AP reports.
