Trump Claims He’s ‘Made a Lot of Sacrifices’

July 30, 2016 · 1:33 pm ET · Leave a Comment

In his first response to a searing charge from bereaved Army father Khizr Khan that he’d “sacrificed nothing” for his country, Donald Trump told ABC News that he had in fact sacrificed by employing “thousands and thousands of people.”

He also suggested that Khan’s wife didn’t speak because she was forbidden to as a Muslim: “I’d like to hear his wife say something.”

And he questioned whether Khan’s words were his own: “Who wrote that? Did Hillary’s script writers write it? I think I’ve made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard.”

Meanwhile, Khizr and Ghazala Khan told MSNBC why they decided to call out Trump.

Trump Accuses Clinton of Rigging Debate Schedule

July 30, 2016 · 11:41 am ET · Leave a Comment

Donald Trump accused Hillary Clinton of intentionally stacking debates against prime time programming to “rig” the election process, despite the fact that the schedule has been set since last September, Politico reports.

Said Trump: “As usual, Hillary and the Dems are trying to rig the debates so two are up against major NFL games. Same as last time w/ Bernie. Unacceptable!”

Clinton Hopes to Rally Both Sides Against Trump

July 29, 2016 · 10:30 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“Democrats marked a decisive turn in their campaign against Donald Trump this week, moving to recast the 2016 race not as a conventional battle between left and right but as a national emergency that requires voters of all stripes to band together against a singularly menacing candidate,” the New York Times reports.

“Abandoning their standard critique against conservative Republicans, allies of Hillary Clinton argued that Mr. Trump was not merely another champion of right-wing ideas, deserving of rejection for his views on the environment or health care.”

“Instead, in an onslaught of astonishing ferocity led by President Obama, they used their convention to portray Mr. Trump as a dangerously unstable figure and a friend of foreign despots like President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia. Some Democrats suggested Mr. Trump might have authoritarian impulses of his own: Prominent in Mrs. Clinton’s acceptance speech Thursday night was a pointed reminder that the American system was designed to prevent the rise of a dictator.”

Trump Says He’s Run a ‘Flawless Campaign’

July 29, 2016 · 7:14 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Donald Trump fired back at Hillary Clinton a day after she accused the Republican nominee of being too thin-skinned to have control of the country’s nuclear arsenal, ABC News reports.

Said Trump: “I think I have a great temperament, I have a temperament where I know how to win. She doesn’t know how to win, she’s not a winner. She doesn’t know how to win. And this country, if they choose her, this country will not be in good shape.”

He added: “I’ve had a beautiful, I’ve had a flawless campaign. You’ll be writing books about this campaign.”

Trump’s Speech Was Worst Gallup Has Polled

July 29, 2016 · 6:49 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Gallup: “Trump’s speech got the least positive reviews of any speech we have tested after the fact: 35% of Americans interviewed last weekend said it was excellent or good. Of the nine previous speeches we have rated, the top one was Barack Obama’s in August 2008, which 58% of Americans rated as excellent or good.”

Koch Brothers Reject Effort to Meet with Trump

July 29, 2016 · 6:05 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“Top Donald Trump donors tried to set up a meeting between the GOP presidential nominee and Charles Koch in Colorado Springs on Friday, but Koch aides rejected the entreaties,” Politico reports.

“Koch and his brother David Koch, who helm an influential network of advocacy groups and major conservative donors, have been sharply critical of Trump’s rhetoric and policy stances and have indicated they do not intend to support his campaign.”

Angry at Mike Pence

July 29, 2016 · 2:49 pm ET · Leave a Comment

David Brooks: “The Sanders people have 90 percent of the Democratic Party’s passion and 95 percent of the ideas. Most Sanders people are kind- and open-hearted, but there is a core that is corrupted by moral preening, an uncompromising absolutism and a paranoid unwillingness to play by the rules of civic life.”

“But the extremist fringe that threatens to take over the Democratic Party seems less menacing than the lunatic fringe that has already taken over the Republican one.”

“This week I left the arena here each night burning with indignation at Mike Pence. I almost don’t blame Trump. He is a morally untethered, spiritually vacuous man who appears haunted by multiple personality disorders. It is the ‘sane’ and ‘reasonable’ Republicans who deserve the shame — the ones who stood silently by, or worse, while Donald Trump gave away their party’s sacred inheritance.”

Trump Says He Wanted to ‘Hit’ Several DNC Speakers

July 29, 2016 · 12:37 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Donald Trump told ABC News that he wanted to “hit” some of the Democratic convention speakers “so hard” while watching them.

Said Trump: “You know what I wanted to. I wanted to hit a couple of those speakers so hard. I would have hit them. No, no. I was going to hit them, I was all set and then I got a call from a highly respected governor.”

He added: “I was gonna hit one guy in particular, a very little guy. I was gonna hit this guy so hard his head would spin and he wouldn’t know what the hell happened.”

Trump Sinks to New Low In Restricting Press

July 28, 2016 · 3:16 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Huffington Post: “Even as Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has denied press credentials to news organizations throughout the 2016 election season, journalists generally have had another option: Get a ticket, like anyone else, and walk in.”

“But in a disturbing interaction Wednesday night, private security, in tandem with local Milwaukee law enforcement, detained and patted down Washington Post reporter Jose DelReal while searching for his cellphone at a public event featuring GOP vice presidential candidate Mike Pence. DelReal, who had already been denied entry with the press, was then also prohibited from attending as a member of the public.”

Trump Says Following Law Proves He Likes Disabled

July 28, 2016 · 1:46 pm ET · Leave a Comment

In an interview with Fox News, Donald Trump defended his comments from last year about a disabled New York Times reporter and said he would never mock a disabled person.

Said Trump: “I spend millions of dollars making buildings good for people that are disabled, okay? Millions and millions of dollars. Do you think I’d ever do a thing like that?”

Think Progress: “This isn’t the first time Trump’s talked about his compliance with a federal law like it’s an act of charity.”

Clinton’s Convention Was Made for TV

July 28, 2016 · 7:14 am ET · Leave a Comment

“Hillary Clinton has so far been putting on a better television show in Philadelphia than Donald Trump did in Cleveland,” the New York Times reports.

“Expectations had it the other way around. Mr. Trump is the bona fide television sensation, a former maestro of a hit reality series, and he had promised to bring some ‘showbiz’ to the proceedings. Yet it’s Mrs. Clinton who has had the celebrities and musical acts that ‘Tonight Show’ bookers’ dreams are made of — Alicia Keys, Meryl Streep, Paul Simon, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz and Lena Dunham. It’s Mrs. Clinton who has had the more professionally produced show.”

This will bother Trump: “And at least for the first two nights, it’s Mrs. Clinton who has had the bigger ratings, by several million people.”

The Chaos Candidate

July 28, 2016 · 6:21 am ET · Leave a Comment

“The big story at the Democratic convention for most of Wednesday was not the Democrats — not Hillary Clinton, Tim Kaine or even President Obama, the evening’s star speaker. It was Donald Trump, whose loose and provocative talk about the Russians and Clinton’s emails seemed exponentially beyond even his standards for creating turmoil and controversy,” the Washington Post reports.

“Trump thrives on chaos and above all else demands attention. When the spotlight falls elsewhere, such as on the Democrats this week in Philadelphia, he looks to shift it back in his direction. He is a candidate who uses disruption as a strategic force. Wednesday was a textbook example — whether for good or ill.”

Rubio Says Trump Will Learn on the Job

July 27, 2016 · 2:17 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Sen. Marco Rubio told WGN that his “sense” is that Donald Trump’s positions on issues will more fully develop as he takes on the role as president.

Said Rubio: “I view the Senate as a place that can always act as a check and balance on whoever the next president is. I also think there’s something to be said for, once you’re actually in that position, once you’re actually working at this thing, and you’re in there, and you start to have access to information that perhaps you didn’t have before, especially for someone that’s never been in politics, I think it starts to impact your views a little bit.”

Trump Won’t Release His Taxes

July 27, 2016 · 10:06 am ET · Leave a Comment

Paul Manafort told CBS News that Donald Trump would not be releasing his tax information.

Said Manafort: “Mr. Trump has said that his taxes are under audit and he will not be releasing them… It has nothing to do with Russia, it has nothing to do with any country other than the United States and his normal tax auditing process.”

Ron Fournier: “Trump must be made to release his tax records because he repeatedly promised to do so; because every major presidential candidate in the modern era has done so; because Richard Nixon released his tax returns while being audited, which is Trump’s latest excuse for reneging; because voters have a right to know how much he pays in taxes and to charities; because there are credible and concerning links between Trump and the Russian government, which is suspected of hacking the Democratic National Committee computers and leaking embarrassing bits.”

Trump Says He Has No Russian Investments

July 27, 2016 · 5:12 am ET · Leave a Comment

Donald Trump sought to distance himself from reports that Russian government hackers were responsible for the breach of Democratic National Committee servers in order to boost his presidential bid, Politico reports.

Said Trump: “In order to try and deflect the horror and stupidity of the Wikileakes disaster, the Dems said maybe it is Russia dealing with Trump… For the record, I have zero investments in Russia.”
