Idaho Governor Will Accept Relief Funds

Idaho Gov. Brad Little (R) will work with state legislators to accept and spend the nearly $1.2 billion in discretionary funding his state will receive from the American Relief Plan, the Idaho Statesmen reports.

Said Little: “The plan is being mortgaged on our children and grandchildren’s future. They will shoulder the burden to pay off this massive debt. All that said, rejecting the funds is not the right thing to do for Idaho.”

Former Idaho Candidate Under Investigation for Murder

Former Idaho gubernatorial candidate Steve Pankey (R) told the Idaho Statesman that he is under investigation in the cold-case killing of a 12-year-old girl in Colorado 35 years ago.

Idaho Republicans Kill Bill to End Child Marriages

“Idaho has the highest rate of child marriage in the U.S.,” the Idaho Statesman reports.

“This statistic isn’t likely to change soon because the House of Representatives on Thursday voted to kill a bill that would end child marriage in Idaho.”

“From 2000 to 2010, 4,080 children in Idaho were married, according to data compiled from 38 states by Unchained at Last, a national advocacy group working to end forced and child marriages in America. The youngest minor wed in Idaho was 13.”

Idaho Official Resigns Over Photos of Killed Baboons

“Idaho Fish and Game Commissioner Blake Fischer resigned Monday, three days after the Statesman first reported on criticism Fischer faced for sharing photos of an African hunting trip,” the Idaho Statesman reports.

“He was asked to resign by Gov. Butch Otter.”

“Fischer has received criticism from around the world after Friday’s report on the hunting trip he took to Africa and the photos he shared with friends and colleagues. Particularly, the image of his posing with a ‘family of baboons’ he shot during his trip to Namibia provoked criticism from former Idaho wildlife commissioners and has circulated on national media outlets.”

Idaho Commissioner Called to Resign Over Hunting Photos

“Idaho Fish and Game Commissioner Blake Fischer shared photos of his guided hunting trip in Africa with friends and colleagues when he returned last month, expecting they’d appreciate his success,” the Idaho Statesman reports.

“Instead, several former Fish and Game commissioners are pushing for his resignation — with a photo of a ‘family of baboons’ that Fischer shot with a recurve bow prompting most of the outrage.”

Ex-Lawmaker Facing Sex Abuse Inquiry Kills Himself

Former Idaho state Rep. Brandon Hixon (R), who was facing a sexual abuse investigation, has shot and killed himself, the AP reports.

“Officials have released no details about the criminal investigation into Hixon, 36, except that it was related to possible sexual abuse. Records obtained by The Associated Press show that he was previously the focus of a separate police investigation in 2014 after being accused of inappropriate touching.”
