John Edwards Rebuilds His Law Career

May 7, 2019 · 12:52 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“John Edwards was a top personal injury lawyer before he turned to politics two decades ago. But after two ‘wildly unsuccessful’ runs at president and an extramarital affair that made tabloid headlines for years, the former U.S. senator has quietly returned to law to resurrect his career,” WRAL reports.

“Edwards said his personal struggles – his affair and child with campaign aide Rielle Hunter ended his 2008 presidential run and led to the federal charges against him – help him empathize with families in crisis.”

Extra Bonus Quote of the Day

April 24, 2016 · 4:16 pm ET · 75 Comments

“It’s so easy to make a mistake in this. Choosing Edwards was a mistake because Dick could have helped us in Ohio in a way that Edwards could not, and Dick would have done better in the vice-presidential debate.”

— Robert Shrum, quoted by the New York Times, acknowledging that advising John Kerry to pick John Edwards over Dick Gephardt as his running mate in 2004 was a mistake.

A Republican John Edwards

March 8, 2016 · 10:57 am ET · 41 Comments

Adam Smith: “The promise of Rubio never lived up to the reality. In no state did he build an especially strong campaign. He was a good, not great, fundraiser. He generally played it safe — trying hard not to antagonize any particular wing of the GOP while also failing to inspire great passion in any wing. It took great instincts and more guts than many people realize to jump in the race after Jeb Bush signaled he would run, but we rarely saw those guts and instincts from Rubio after he announced. I’m not sure Rubio has shown he’s much more than a Republican John Edwards — a telegenic guy with one great speech and family story but not much else.”

Flashback Quote of the Day

January 22, 2015 · 8:52 am ET · 33 Comments

“When I watch John Edwards from time to time get up and talk about two Americas. I’m tempted to—well, offer an expletive like, ‘Baloney!'”

— Mitt Romney, quoted by CBS News in 2008, before his new found concern about income inequality in America.
