Gutierrez Weighs Possible Presidential Bid

November 29, 2017 · 2:59 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), who announced this week that he will not run for re-election, told Politico that he is not retiring and is thinking about running for president in 2020.

Said Gutierrez: “I will be reaching out to people across the country. I am going to take the steps to guarantee FEC regulations and rules about campaign financing, first and foremost, make sure I’m following the law…  I want to build something national.”

Gutiérrez said he and his wife plan to tour the country over the next six months.

Gutiérrez Will Not Run for Re-Election

November 28, 2017 · 7:03 am ET · Leave a Comment

Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.), a leading national voice on immigration reform, will not seek reelection, Politico reports.

“Gutierrez, who has held his seat since 1993, is expected to announce Tuesday afternoon he’s withdrawing the nominating petitions he just filed on Monday and will formally endorse Jesus ‘Chuy’ Garcia. Garcia, a Cook County commissioner, had forced Mayor Rahm Emanuel into a runoff election in 2015. His bid for Gutierrez’s seat means Garcia will not challenge Emanuel again in 2019 as he had previously planned.”
