Tim Scott Says Sanders Biggest Threat to Trump
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) told CBS News that he believes that Sen. Bernie Sanders is the Democrat who poses the “biggest threat” to President Trump in November.
Said Scott: “Bernie Sanders brings that outside game in a similar fashion that President Trump did in 2016. Think about the similarities. In 2016, Republican leadership, Republican wisdom said that there is no way in the world out of the 17 candidates, Donald Trump will be the president. I think it’s very similar.”
Scott Tanks Controversial Judicial Nomination
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said he will oppose the nomination of Thomas Farr to the federal bench, assuring the controversial pick will not be confirmed, the Columbia State reports.
“In a brief statement explaining his decision, Scott cited a 1991 Department of Justice memo that was leaked just this week, days before the Senate was set to vote on Farr’s confirmation. It detailed Farr’s involvement in “ballot security” activities by the 1984 and 1990 campaigns of then-Sen. Jesse Helms (R-NC).
Graham Confirmed Trump Made ‘Shithole’ Comment
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) told the Charleston Post and Courier that he talked to fellow Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) about hearing President Trump’s “shithole countries” comment and Graham confirmed to him the president said it.
Graham’s office has not returned messages inquiring about Trump’s comments that reportedly were uttered in the Oval Office during a bi-partisan meeting on immigration reform.
Black Republican Gives Trump a Lecture on Racism
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), “the lone black Republican in the Senate, delivered a pointed lecture on America’s 300-year legacy of racism to President Trump on Wednesday in response to what he called Mr. Trump’s ‘sterile’ response to the riots in Charlottesville last month,” the New York Times reports.
“When a reporter asked the senator if the president had expressed regret, a pained look flashed on Mr. Scott’s face.”
He paused for a few seconds and replied: “He certainly tried to explain what he was trying to convey.”
Scott Says Trump’s Moral Authority Is In Question
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) told Vice News that he questioned President Trump’s moral authority following the tragedy in Charlottesville.
Said Scott: “I’m not going to defend the indefensible… Trump’s comments on Monday were strong. His comments on Tuesday started erasing the comments that were strong. What we want to see from our president is clarity and moral authority. And that moral authority is compromised when Tuesday happened. There’s no question about that.””
Scott Won’t Run for South Carolina Governor
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said he has ruled out a bid for South Carolina governor in 2018, the Spartanburg Herald Journal reports.
Said Scott: “The more I pray, the more I am comfortable that where I am is where I want to be right now. You’ve got to have fire to run for governor. We are finding fire and that is staying (in the Senate).”
