Millionaires Prefer Biden to Trump
A new CNBC poll of millionaires finds Joe Biden beats President Trump in a general election match up, 48% to 41%. Biden would even get 18% of Republican millionaire votes in a Trump-Biden match-up.
The only other Democratic candidate who beats Trump among millionaires is Pete Buttigieg, who edges past Trump 46% to 43%. Trump easily beats both Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren among millionaires.

Journalism Suffers from Centrist Bias
John Harris: “This bias is marked by an instinctual suspicion of anything suggesting ideological zealotry, an admiration for difference-splitting, a conviction that politics should be a tidier and more rational process than it usually is.”
David Leonhardt: “The bias caused much of the media to underestimate Ronald Reagan in 1980 and Donald Trump in 2016. It also helps explain the negative tone running through a lot of the coverage of Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders this year.”
“Centrist bias, as I see it, confuses the idea of centrism (which is very much an ideology) with objectivity and fairness. It’s an understandable confusion, because American politics is dominated by the two major parties, one on the left and one on the right. And the overwhelming majority of journalists at so-called mainstream outlets — national magazines, newspapers, public radio, the non-Fox television networks — really are doing their best to treat both parties fairly.
Warren Shakes Up Campaign Style

“Instead of a 45-minute stump speech followed by three audience questions, Warren is speaking for fewer than 10 minutes and opening the rest of the hour to questions. The new format gets in at least a dozen audience questions, allowing for more crowd interaction than she’s had in her nearly yearlong campaign in Iowa.”
Tulsi Gabbard Leads the Anti-Anti-Trump Left
Jonathan Chait: “Left-wing anti-anti-Trumpism played an important role in the bizarre 2016 outcome. Die-hard Bernie activists, fired up with anger at the release of DNC emails stolen by Russians that purportedly showed the party had rigged the primary, demonstrated against the party outside its convention hall and tried to drown out the speakers inside with boos. Stein attacked Hillary Clinton from the left, then audaciously staged a grift-y fundraising scheme supposedly to hold recounts in the states she had labored to flip to Trump. Trump’s election appeared to deliver the same shock of reality that had vaporized Ralph Nader’s 2000 support.”

President Trump complained about Speaker Nancy Pelosi refusing to immediately send articles of impeachment to the U.S. Senate.

Associated Press: “The Associated Press reported some details in October of the brash pitch that Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman made to Andrew Favorov in Houston. But in a recent series of interviews with the AP in Kyiv, Favorov painted a more complete picture of his dealings with Giuliani’s associates.”
“His tale, corroborated by interviews with other key witnesses, reveals that the pair continued to pursue a deal for months. The campaign culminated in May, at a meeting at the Trump International Hotel in Washington that included a lobbyist with deep ties to U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry and a Republican fundraiser from Texas close to Donald Trump Jr.”

Trump Fights Legislation to Help Kurdish Refugees
Daily Beast: “In a detailed memo to senators, the Trump administration is fighting a bill that would punish Turkey for buying Russian missiles, arguing it would drive the countries closer together. Of note, Team Trump opposes a provision in the bill that would help Syrian Kurdish refugees immigrate to the United States.”
McConnell Defends Not Being an Impartial Juror
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told Fox and Friends that few senators are “impartial” in an impeachment trial.
Said McConnell: “Do you think Chuck Schumer is impartial? Do you think Elizabeth Warren is impartial? Bernie Sanders is impartial? So let’s quit the charade. This is a political exercise. … All I’m asking of Schumer is that we treat Trump the same way we treated Clinton.”
He continued: “We had a procedure that was approved 100 to nothing — Schumer voted for it, to go through the opening arguments, to have a written question period, and then, based upon that, deciding what witnesses to call. We haven’t ruled out witnesses. We’ve said let’s handle this case just like we did with President Clinton. Fair is fair.”
He added that he spoke to Democratic leader Chuck Schumer before they left town: “Look, we’re at an impasse. We can’t do anything until the speaker sends the papers over, so everybody enjoy the holidays.”
‘McConnell Has Destroyed Senate Norms’
Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) told NBC News that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has destroyed Senate norms.
Said McCaskill: “McConnell has presided over absolutely destroying Senate norms, from Merrick Garland to killing legislative debate. The Senate is no longer what it was, and the people of this country are gonna have to be the ones politically to put pressure on this dysfunction and say we want unity, we want stuff to get done, we want you to quit the partisan food fight.”
Democrats Fret Over Post-Impeachment Trump
“Democrats have spent the last three months trying to rein in what they see as President Trump’s flagrant and latest abuse of power,” Politico reports.
“But they concede it’s not likely to work. The president, they say, is not going to change. Not because of a legacy-tarring rebuke. Not because of an expected impeachment acquittal. And, in their eyes, he may even get worse. Democrats are expecting a post-impeachment Trump who is unburdened, feeling immune from penalty — exactly how they feel he’s always behaved.”

“As President Trump raises money for his reelection campaign, he’s competing for cash with a growing mass of pro-Trump PACs, dark money groups and off-brand Facebook advertisers neither affiliated with nor endorsed by Trump’s campaign, which have pulled in over $46 million so far,” Politico reports.

New York Times: “The United States, an implacable foe during the Cold War but now presided over by a president determined to ‘get along with Russia,’ is convulsed and distracted by impeachment; Britain, the other main pillar of a trans-Atlantic alliance that Mr. Putin has worked for years to undermine, is also turning inward and just voted for a government that vows to exit the European Union by the end of January.”

Leahy Slams Two GOP Senators
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) writes in the New York Times that two senior Republican senators — Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham — have abandoned the commitment to impartial impeachment trials.
Said Leahy: “This is tantamount to a criminal defendant being allowed to set the rules for his own trial, while the judge and jury promise him a quick acquittal. That is a far cry from the ‘impartial justice’ required by our oaths and the Constitution.”
Evangelical Magazine Has Gained Subscribers
Christianity Today editor Mark Galli told MSNBC that his evangelical magazine has seen a surge in new subscriptions since it published his scathing editorial calling for President Trump’s removal from office.
Said Galli: “A stereotypical response is ‘thank you, thank you, thank you’ with a string of a hundred exclamation points — ‘you’ve said what I’ve been thinking but haven’t been able to articulate, I’m not crazy.‘ We have lost subscribers, but we’ve had 3 times as many people start to subscribe.”
Five Sentenced to Death for Khashoggi’s Killing
“Saudi Arabia sentenced five people to death on Monday for the killing of Washington Post columnist and royal family critic Jamal Khashoggi, who was murdered in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul last year by a team of Saudi agents,” the AP reports.
“The killing of Khashoggi stunned the international community and also many Saudi citizens, who were deeply shocked that a Saudi national could be killed by 15 government agents inside one of the kingdom’s consulates.”
Obama Talks Up Warren to Wealthy Donors
“Sen. Elizabeth Warren has spent her campaign railing against the donor class, making it known she doesn’t want their help,” The Hill reports.
“But behind the scenes in recent months, former President Obama has gone to bat for Warren (Mass.) when speaking to donors reluctant to support her given her knocks on Wall Street and the wealthy.”
“And if Warren becomes the nominee, Obama has said they must throw the entirety of their support behind her.”
