August 17, 2020 at 6:45 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Bernie Sanders takes on a somewhat new role in his address to the Democratic National Convention on Monday night — that of party unifier,” Bloomberg reports.

Fueling Political Wire, One Cup at a Time

Every morning before the sun’s up, I sit down to work on Political Wire with a cup of Trade Coffee beside me.

It’s become part of the ritual — opening the laptop, scanning the news, and taking that first sip of a roast matched perfectly to my taste. Trade connects me with small roasters across the country, delivering beans that are always fresh and far better than what you’ll find at the grocery store.

If you love coffee as much as I do, use this link to get 50% off and taste the difference for yourself.

‘Anonymous’ Urges Vote for Biden

August 17, 2020 at 4:07 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

The self-described “senior Trump administration official,” who anonymously trashed the president’s leadership in a 2018 op-ed and a 2019 best-selling book, is calling for voters to throw the president out of office this November in a new preface for the paperback “2020 election edition” of the book, Politico reports.

“Anonymous” said last year that they would reveal their identity to Trump before the election, but the person stays nameless in the latest edition, only saying they plan to unveil themselves in “due course.”

The ‘Lost Colony’ of Roanoke Was Never Lost

August 17, 2020 at 3:31 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The English colonists who settled the so-called Lost Colony before disappearing from history simply went to live with their native friends — the Croatoans of Hatteras, according to a new book,” the Virginian-Pilot reports.

Said author Scott Dawson, who researched records and dug up artifacts where the colonists lived with the Indians in the 16th century: “They were never lost. It was made up. The mystery is over.”

“Teams have found thousands of artifacts 4-6 feet below the surface that show a mix of English and Indian life. Parts of swords and guns are in the same layer of soil as Indian pottery and arrowheads.”

Trump Insider Led Effort to Remove Him from Ballot

August 17, 2020 at 2:19 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A powerful Republican central to the president’s 2020 reelection bid was part of a more concerted effort than previously known to remove him from the ballot in 2016,” Business Insider reports.

“The maneuvers of Katie Walsh and, to a lesser degree, her husband, Mike Shields, have been discussed quietly among some of President Trump’s closest advisers for years. They have both served in powerful posts, including in the White House and the Republican National Committee. Some of those advisers have debated whether the two actually want to help the president or whether they simply want to cash in on their access to Trump.”

“You know, I had always been hopeful, even after the convention and after the election, that perhaps we would see a change in the president, but we just never have. I happen to think it’s the soul of our country that is being damaged, and that’s what I’m concerned about.”

— Former Gov. John Kasich (R), quoted by the New York Times, on why he’s crossing party lines to vote for Joe Biden.
