Biden Talked to Netanyahu
“President Joe Biden held a ‘direct,’ 30-minute phone call with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, their first conversation in almost two months and a chance to confer over Israel’s planned response to an Iranian ballistic missile attack,” CNN reports.
Fox News Proposes Final Debate
Fox News has proposed a final presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump that would fall barely a week before Election Day, The Independent reports.
The debate, proposed for October 24 or 27 in the swing state of Pennsylvania, would feature Fox’s Brett Baier and Martha MacCallum as moderators and would be held without a live audience.

GOP Lawmaker Slams Marjorie Taylor Greene
Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) said that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and others who think like her that humans can control the weather need “to have their head examined,” Politico reports.
Letitia James Mulls Run for New York City Mayor
“With Mayor Eric Adams’s political future shrouded in uncertainty, the New York attorney general, Letitia James, is considering whether to run to replace him,” the New York Times reports.
“Her decision is far from assured and is not imminent; some close to her stressed her ambivalence, if not reluctance. But Ms. James might be swayed to run if a different sullied political leader enters the race: the former governor she helped push out of office, Andrew Cuomo.”
Trump Plans Rallies In Solidly Democratic States
NBC News: “With less than four weeks until Election Day, Trump is scheduled to hold rallies in staunchly Democratic states he has virtually no chance of winning. It’s an unorthodox strategy campaign advisers say is designed to focus on areas where Democratic policies have failed, but it will also keep him away from the small handful of swing states almost certain to determine the election.”
“Over the next month, Trump has events scheduled in Colorado, California, Illinois and New York. President Joe Biden won those states by an average of 20 points in 2020, with his 13-point Colorado win the closest margin.”
Lawmakers Vow to Fight Restoring Confederate Names
“Lawmakers from both parties are vowing to fight back if former President Donald Trump makes good on his pledge to put a Confederate general’s name back on an Army base if he’s reelected,” Politico reports.
Biden Accuses Trump of ‘Outright Lies’ About Hurricane
President Biden accused Donald Trump of “outright lies” regarding the federal government’s response to Hurricane Helene, causing moral issues among emergency medical workers and confusing victims of the storm, the New York Times reports.
Said Biden: “The last few weeks, there’s been a reckless, irresponsible and relentless promotion of disinformation and outright lies. It’s undermining confidence in the incredible rescue and recovery work that has already been taken and will continue to be taken. It’s harmful to those who need help the most.”

The ‘Blue Wall’ Shows Cracks
New Quinnipiac polls of likely voters:
- Pennsylvania: Harris 49%, Trump 46%
- Michigan: Trump 50%, Harris 47%
- Wisconsin: Trump 48%, Harris 46%
Said pollsters Tim Malloy: “The Harris post-debate starburst dims to a glow as Harris enters the last weeks slipping slightly in the Rust Belt.”
Harris Moves to Wipe Out Trump’s Edge on the Economy
“Kamala Harris is zeroing in on a monumental task that could make or break her prospects in the final month before Election Day: wiping out Donald Trump’s persisting advantage among voters on whom they trust to handle the economy,” NBC News reports.
“While Harris has gained ground on stewardship of the economy, Trump still leads in most surveys about the issue, which frequently ranks as the top concern for voters. The Harris campaign and Democratic allies believe she must erode that advantage and at least fight it to a draw.”
Trump’s Best Bet Remains Less Engaged Voters
Cook Political Report: “All year, we’ve been tracking a defining datapoint of 2024: the divergent political behavior of ‘high-engagement’ voters — the most civic-minded folks who show up in every presidential, midterm, primary and school board race — and more peripherally-engaged voters who are less ideological and don’t eat, sleep and breathe politics or cable news but nevertheless show up to vote in presidential years.”
“Our final poll of the seven key battleground states shows this gap persisting, with Vice President Kamala Harris maintaining her edge with the former group but former President Donald Trump standing to benefit if November sees higher turnout among the latter.”
Key findings: Among voters who always show up, Harris still leads by four, 51% to 47%. But among low/mid-propensity, Trump’s back up to a 52% to 45% lead.
Kamala Harris Has Raised Over $1 Billion
“Vice President Kamala Harris has raised more than $1 billion in less than three months as a presidential candidate,” the New York Times reports.
“While other presidential candidates, together with their parties, have passed that threshold before, the sheer speed with which Ms. Harris and her affiliated party committees raised the sum is notable. And it’s more than former President Donald Trump has announced raising in all of 2024.”
Trump’s Attacks on Haitian Immigrants Worked
Stan Greenberg: “Trump shifted the momentum in the race when he began his outrageous, slanderous, and racist statements about Haitian immigrants. He has also made immigrants the cause of high rents and food prices and spread the false rumor that FEMA ran out of funds for North Carolina hurricane victims.”
“It was very effective and is still shaping the race.”
“Trump’s daily blows pushed up Republican enthusiasm ahead of Democrats and shifted white working-class and Hispanic voters. They shifted votes toward Trump in North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada. And critically, they dropped Harris’s margin in Pennsylvania from near 2 percent to a half percent. Polls in Pennsylvania and nationally show her support trending down.”
Arizona Girds for Poll Chaos
“A new wrought-iron fence wraps around the Maricopa County office where votes will be counted next month. On Election Day, there’ll be concrete barriers too, along with plainclothes officers and mounted police,” Bloomberg reports.
“Layers of security including cameras have been added to protect ballot machines, and no one without clearance is allowed into the rooms where ballots are counted. Arizona and its most populous county are leaving nothing to chance as they seek to avoid a repeat of the chaos that marred the 2020 election.”
Inside the Harris Advertising Strategy
The Bulwark: “When it comes to television, the campaign is largely focused on abortion, taxes, housing, and healthcare, according to a CNN breakdown of the spending. The topic of the 2020 election—Trump’s attempt to overturn the result, the events of January 6th, and what all this means for the future of American democracy—has been largely reserved for online political warfare and earned media mentions to juice the political press into reporting on the issue.”
“That decision doesn’t mean that Harris’s team is simply ignoring election denialism or threats to democracy, just that it’s emphasizing those themes online instead of on TV.”
Republicans Plan Ad Blitz Around Harris Quote on Biden
Republicans are planning to spend heavily to promote a clip of Kamala Harris saying on ABC’s “The View” that there’s “not a thing” she would have done differently over the past four years than President Biden, Axios reports.
Said one Trump ally: “Expect to see this clip every single time you turn on the television between now and Nov. 5.”
The Politics of Kamala Harris’ Glock
Semafor: “While not the most mentioned subject (and one that is sometimes brought up by interviewers or moderators first) the Harris-Walz ticket has emphasized their gun ownership during this campaign — even as they confidently call for new restrictions on firearms.”
“Their rhetoric on the topic points to the changing politics of the issue in both parties this cycle.”
