Trump Will Declassify Page and Ohr Documents

September 9, 2018 at 8:11 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“President Trump is expected to declassify, as early as this week, documents covering the U.S. government’s surveillance of Trump campaign adviser Carter Page and the investigative activities of senior Justice Department lawyer Bruce Ohr,” Axios reports.

“Republicans on the House Intelligence and Judiciary committees believe the declassification will permanently taint the Trump-Russia investigation by showing the investigation was illegitimate to begin with. Trump has been hammering the same theme for months.”

Burr Breaks with Republicans Over FISA Warrant

July 24, 2018 at 4:26 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) told CNN “he believed there were ‘sound reasons’ for judges to approve the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant on former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page, in yet another break between the Republican leaders of the House and Senate intelligence committees.”

“Burr’s comments once again put him at odds with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, who spearheaded the memo on FISA abuses.”

Trump Adviser Bragged of Kremlin Ties In 2013

February 3, 2018 at 7:20 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page bragged that he was an adviser to the Kremlin in a letter obtained by Time that raises new questions about the extent of Page’s contacts with the Russian government.

From the letter, dated Aug. 25, 2013: “Over the past half year, I have had the privilege to serve as an informal advisor to the staff of the Kremlin in preparation for their Presidency of the G-20 Summit next month, where energy issues will be a prominent point on the agenda.”

Carter Page Held Meetings with Hungarian Officials

November 20, 2017 at 5:43 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Travels by Trump campaign adviser Carter Page to meet with senior officials in Hungary during the 2016 presidential election are being closely examined by congressional investigators, given the increasingly close ties between Hungary and Russia and the role of the country as a hub for Russian intelligence activity. The Hungarian prime minister was the first foreign leader to endorse Donald Trump’s candidacy,” ABC News reports.

“Though characterized as a low-level volunteer, Page held high-level foreign policy meetings with Hungarian officials before the 2016 presidential election.”

Trump Adviser Described Private Talk with Russian Official

November 7, 2017 at 6:02 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Carter Page, a foreign policy adviser to President Trump’s campaign whose visit to Moscow during the election has drawn scrutiny, sent an email to fellow Trump aides during his trip describing ‘a private conversation’ with a senior Russian official who spoke favorably of the Republican candidate,” the Washington Post reports.

“Page also wrote that he had been provided ‘incredible insights and outreach’ by Russian lawmakers and ‘senior members’ of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration during the trip.”

“The email appeared to contradict earlier statements by Page, who had said he had only exchanged brief greetings with the senior Russian official, Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, after he delivered a speech at a Russian university.”

Trump Adviser Met With Russian Officials in 2016

November 3, 2017 at 9:33 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Carter Page told the House Intelligence Committee that he met Russian government officials during a July 2016 trip he took to Moscow, the New York Times reports.

“Shortly after the trip, Mr. Page sent an email to at least one Trump campaign aide describing insights he had after conversations with government officials, legislators and business executives during his time in Moscow.”

“The new details of the trip present a different picture than the account Mr. Page has given during numerous appearances in the news media in recent months and are yet another example of a Trump adviser meeting with Russians officials during the 2016 campaign.”

Page Says He Told Sessions About Russia Trip

November 2, 2017 at 8:03 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Former Trump foreign policy adviser Carter Page privately testified that he mentioned to Jeff Sessions he was traveling to Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign — as new questions emerge about the attorney general’s comments to Congress about Russia and the Trump campaign,” CNN reports.

“Sessions’ discussion with Page will fuel further scrutiny about what the attorney general knew about connections between the Trump campaign and Russia — and communications about Russia that he did not disclose despite a persistent line of questioning in three separate hearings this year.”

Page May Have Discussed Russia with Papadopoulos

October 31, 2017 at 7:16 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Carter Page, a foreign policy adviser to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, said he might have exchanged emails about Russia with a fellow adviser who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the president’s campaign and possible collusion with the Russian government,” Politico reports.

“As he has in the past, Page repeatedly declined to provide direct answer to questions about his role on Trump’s campaign.”

Ex-Trump Adviser Refuses to Testify

October 10, 2017 at 5:59 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Carter Page, a former foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, informed the Senate Intelligence Committee that he will not be cooperating with any requests to appear before the panel for its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and would plead the Fifth,” Politico reports.

“A former naval-officer-turned-energy consultant, Page came under fire last year after reports emerged that he had met with high-level associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in 2016. While Page denied those meetings occurred, the Trump campaign distanced itself from the adviser not long after.”

FBI Has Questioned Trump Adviser at Length

June 26, 2017 at 6:24 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“FBI agents have repeatedly questioned former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page about his contacts with Russians and his interactions with the Trump campaign,” the Washington Post reports.

“Over a series of five meetings in March, totaling about 10 hours of questioning, Page repeatedly denied wrongdoing when asked about allegations that he may have acted as a kind of go-between for Russia and the Trump campaign.”

“Because it is against the law for an individual to lie to FBI agents about a material issue under investigation, many lawyers recommend their clients not sit for interviews with the bureau without a lawyer present. Page said he spoke without a lawyer and wasn’t concerned about the risks because he told the truth.”

Trump Adviser’s Moscow Visit Got FBI’s Attention

April 19, 2017 at 9:46 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Ever since FBI investigators discovered in 2013 that a Russian spy was trying to recruit an American businessman named Carter Page, the bureau maintained an occasional interest in Mr. Page. So when he became a foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign last year and gave a Russia-friendly speech at a prestigious Moscow institute, it soon caught the bureau’s attention,” the New York Times reports.

“That trip last July was a catalyst for the FBI investigation into connections between Russia and President Trump’s campaign, according to current and former law enforcement officials.”

Trump Adviser May Have Discussed Lifting Sanctions

April 13, 2017 at 9:42 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Carter Page, a foreign policy adviser to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, told ABC News that when he was in Moscow last summer, “something may have come up in a conversation” with Russians about lifting U.S. sanctions.

Said Page: “I don’t recall every single word I ever said. Something may have come up in a conversation. I have no recollection, and there’s nothing specifically that I would have done that would have given people that impression.”

He added: “We’ll see what comes out in this FISA transcript.”

Ex-Trump Adviser Met with Russian Spy

April 3, 2017 at 8:06 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“A former campaign adviser for Donald Trump met with and passed documents to a Russian intelligence operative in New York City in 2013,” BuzzFeed reports.

“The adviser, Carter Page, met with a Russian intelligence operative named Victor Podobnyy, who was later charged by the US government alongside two others for acting as unregistered agents of a foreign government. The charges, filed in January 2015, came after federal investigators busted a Russian spy ring that was seeking information on US sanctions as well as efforts to develop alternative energy. Page is an energy consultant.”

ABC News: “Two years before joining the Trump campaign as a foreign policy adviser, Page was targeted for recruitment as an intelligence source by Russian spies promising favors for business opportunities in Russia, according to a sealed FBI complaint.”

Trump Campaign Approved Adviser’s Trip to Moscow

March 7, 2017 at 5:36 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski approved foreign policy adviser Carter Page’s now-infamous trip to Moscow last summer on the condition that he would not be an official representative of the campaign, according to a former campaign adviser,” Politico reports.

Page emailed Lewandowski and spokeswoman Hope Hicks asking for formal approval, “and was told by Lewandowski that he could make the trip, but not as an official representative of the campaign, the former campaign adviser said. The adviser spoke on the condition of anonymity because he has not been authorized to discuss internal campaign matters.”
