Hayes Surprises In Connecticut

August 15, 2018 at 6:02 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Jahana Hayes, the former National Teacher of the Year who grew up in public housing, won the Democratic nomination for the open 5th Congressional District seat Tuesday night, bringing her closer to becoming the first black Democrat from New England to win a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives,” the Hartford Courant reports.

”Hayes, who had never run for office before, defeated Mary Glassman, a veteran politician with a long history in government.”

Esty Not Running For Re-Election

April 2, 2018 at 5:00 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Rep. Elizabeth Esty (D-CT) “will not run for re-election after facing intense criticism for mishandling domestic violence allegations against her since-fired chief of staff,” the Hartford Courant reports.

Cook Political Report: “In light of her self-inflicted scandal, Esty’s exit is probably good news for Democrats’ chances of holding the seat. Connecticut’s filing deadline (June 8) and primary (August 14) are relatively late, so both parties more than two months to plot their course.”

Connecticut’s Largest Newspaper Calls on Esty to Resign

March 31, 2018 at 10:03 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

The Hartford Courant called on Rep. Elizabeth Esty (D-CT) to resign after a report detailing how she did not act when she found out her chief of staff threatened to murder a woman who worked in the office.

[alert type=”general” dismiss=”no”]Esty’s seat is definitely vulnerable. Hillary Clinton only won the district by 4 points in 2016.[/alert]
