Gail Huff Brown (R), the wife of former Ambassador and Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA), is strongly considering becoming the sixth Republican candidate for New Hampshire’s 1st congressional district, WMUR reports.
Levi Sanders Announces Congressional Bid
Levi Sanders (D), the son of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), is the eighth Democrat to enter the race for New Hampshire’s 1st District House seat, WMUR reports.
“Sanders, 48, enters the race in the unique – although not unprecedented — position of residing out of the district he hopes to serve in Washington. He is a resident of Claremont, which is in the 2nd District, where he is a registered Democrat, but he’s running for the 1st District seat now held by U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, who is not seeking re-election.”
Shea-Porter Calls It Quits
Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) announced that she will not seek re-election in 2018, saying that “the time has come in my life to pause and decide on a different path,” the Boston Globe reports.
“Her decision is a political bombshell with national implications. At a time when Democrats are looking to win back a majority in the House, Shea-Porter is one of the few Democrats holding office in a district that Republican Donald Trump won last year.”
Most Say Guinta Should Resign
A new American Research Group survey finds that 74% of registered voters in New Hampshire’s 1st congressional district say Rep. Frank Guinta (R-NH) should resign from Congress following the FEC finding that Guinta broke federal campaign finance laws by accepting illegal campaign contributions from his parents.
