Roger Stone May Have Violated Gag Order

March 4, 2019 at 10:20 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

CNBC: “Roger Stone on Sunday suggested he has been ‘framed’ by special counsel Robert Mueller in an Instagram post that appeared to run afoul of a judge’s barely week-old gag order… Stone deleted the only image in that multi-image post that included ‘Who framed Roger Stone’ language shortly after CNBC emailed his lawyer to ask about it.”

“Stone’s post was put online less than 48 hours after the judge, Amy Berman Jackson, ordered lawyers for the admitted Republican ‘dirty trickster‘ to explain why they did not tell her earlier about the planned publication of a book by Stone that could violate her gag order on him.”

Stone’s Forthcoming Book May Violate Gag Order

March 1, 2019 at 11:37 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The judge in charge of Roger Stone’s criminal trial on Friday demanded to know why the court wasn’t made aware of the ‘imminent general release’ of a book that could include discussion of the longtime Trump adviser’s legal proceedings, potentially violating a gag order,” Politico reports.

“Judge Amy Berman Jackson gave Stone’s lawyers until Monday to explain why they didn’t tell her until this week about the looming publication, which she emphasized ‘was known to the defendant.'”

Roger Stone Says Michael Cohen Is Lying

February 27, 2019 at 12:30 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Roger Stone pushed back against Michael Cohen’s claims that Stone told Trump in July 2016 that he had spoken to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange about an email dump that would hurt Hillary Clinton’s campaign, saying in a text message to BuzzFeed News: ‘Mr. Cohen’s statement is not true.'”

“Stone’s text, which he made clear was a ‘statement,’ was just the one sentence, and he did not explain what exactly about Cohen’s testimony he maintained was false. Stone, who is facing criminal charges for lying to Congress, is under a gag order not to publicly comment on his case, special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, or any ‘participants’ in his case or the investigation.”

Stone’s ‘Volunteers’ Still Defending Him Online

February 25, 2019 at 6:05 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Questioned in court last week about his recent Instagram post featuring a photo of the judge presiding over his case with what resembled a crosshairs symbol, Roger Stone said under oath that a ‘volunteer’ found the image. He insisted he couldn’t recall who exactly, though, and struggled to identify the five or six people he said were serving as his volunteers at the time,” BuzzFeed News reports.

“The names he offered after being pressed by the prosecutor underscored Stone’s ties to the Proud Boys, a far-right, men-only extremist group that describes its members as ‘Western chauvinist.’ The four men identified by Stone are all active on social media, and several continued to post about Stone’s case after U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson imposed a strict gag order Thursday — an order that limits not only what Stone can say in public and online, but what his surrogates and volunteers can say on his behalf.”

U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson imposed a full gag order after Roger Stone posted photo on Instagram of judge with what appeared to be crosshairs of gun.

She added: “Any violation of this order will be a basis for revoking your bond.”

Quote of the Day

February 21, 2019 at 3:36 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“I recognize that I let the court down. I let you down. I let myself down. I let my family down. I let my attorneys down. I can only say I’m sorry. it was a momentary lapse in judgment. Perhaps I talk too much… I am kicking myself over my own stupidity.”

— Roger Stone, quoted by Politico, apologizing to U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson for violating her gag order.

Roger Stone Could Go to Jail Today

February 21, 2019 at 8:23 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Federal Judge Amy Berman Jackson is set to decide Thursday whether to stiffen — or revoke — the release bond of Republican trickster Roger Stone for posting an Instagram photo of the judge next to an apparent rifle scope’s crosshair,” CNBC reports.

“The abruptly scheduled hearing in Washington federal court, set for 2:30 p.m. ET, doesn’t bode well for Stone, a longtime friend and advisor of President Trump.”

Stone Posts Photo of Judge With Crosshairs

February 18, 2019 at 6:44 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Days after a federal judge imposed a limited gag order on him, Roger Stone posted a photograph of that judge to his Instagram page that included her name, a close-up of her face and what appeared to be the crosshairs of a gun sight near her head,” the Washington Post reports.

“Stone, a longtime confidant of President Trump, deleted the picture soon afterward, then reposted it without the crosshairs before deleting that second post as well.”

NBC News says Stone later posted a statement on Instagram saying the image had been “misinterpreted.”

Special counsel prosecutors said for the first time that they have evidence of Roger Stone communicating with WikiLeaks, CNN reports.

Judge Puts Gag Order on Roger Stone

February 15, 2019 at 3:40 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

A federal judge has placed a gag order on longtime Donald Trump associate Roger Stone and attorneys involved in his criminal case, CNN reports.

Politico: “For Stone, the gag order was more a matter of when, and not if. The longtime GOP campaign operative and frequent TV commentator who hosts his own daily webcast has been on a media blitz since his indictment last month. He called into the conspiracy theory website InfoWars to give his first interview following his arrest.”

Marking Suggests Roger Stone’s Case Part of Bigger One

February 7, 2019 at 4:49 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

ABC News: “On the copy of Stone’s indictment filed to the official docket for his case, a marking from the U.S. district court clerk’s office reveals it has a ‘related case’ — the July 13 indictment against a dozen Russian intelligence officers accused of hacking the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.”

“The seven charges against Stone are for allegedly lying to lawmakers and attempting to intimidate a witness. Legal experts said the assertion that the hacking case is ‘related’ means the prosecutors consider both cases to be part of a larger story.”

“The marking indicates prosecutors see a ‘common nucleus of facts’ in the cases.”

Mueller Seized ‘Voluminous’ Evidence from Roger Stone

January 31, 2019 at 1:27 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Federal investigators probing Roger Stone “have seized multiple hard drives containing years of communication records from cellphones and email accounts,” NBC News reports.

“Robert Mueller’s prosecutors, in a new court filing, described the evidence as ‘voluminous and complex’ in asking a judge to delay his trial to give them more time to sift through the seized devices.”

No Escape for Roger Stone

January 26, 2019 at 10:37 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Peter Zeidenberg: “This is as close to a slam-dunk case as a prosecutor will ever bring… Do not expect to see special counsel Robert Mueller make any attempt to flip Stone and have him cooperate. A defendant like Stone is far more trouble than he is worth to a prosecutor. Stone is too untrustworthy for a prosecutor to ever rely upon.”

“Mueller does not need Stone to get to someone else and, even if he did, he could not rely on whatever Stone told him. Stone has nothing to sell that Mueller would be interested in buying.”

“Stone is clearly enjoying being in the spotlight now. He should enjoy it while he can. His remaining years won’t be nearly as pleasant.”

Nixon Foundation Distances Ex-President from Stone

January 25, 2019 at 7:00 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

The Nixon Foundation distanced itself and the disgraced former president from Roger Stone, who was indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller earlier today.

Said the statement: “This morning’s widely-circulated characterization of Roger Stone as a Nixon campaign aide or adviser is a gross misstatement. Mr. Stone was 16 years old during the Nixon presidential campaign of 1968 and 20 years old during the reelection campaign of 1972… Mr. Stone, during his time as a student at George Washington University, was a junior scheduler on the Nixon reelection committee. Mr. Stone was not a campaign aide or adviser.”
