At least 11 aides and close confidants told Donald Trump directly in the weeks after the election that there was no fraud and no legal way to overturn the result, the Washington Post reports.
Select Committee to Release Details on Pence Pressure
“The House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol is expected to submit a court filing Wednesday laying out new details about the effort by conservative lawyer John Eastman to persuade Vice President Mike Pence to intervene in the counting of electoral votes to help President Donald Trump overturn the election,” the Washington Post reports.
Texas Primary Results
Texas voters will choose party nominees for statewide seats, including governor, and newly drawn congressional districts. If no candidate in a primary election receives a majority of the vote, the top two vote-getters go head-to-head in a runoff in May.
Axios: “The Texas primaries on Tuesday offer opening battles in a wider ideological war for the direction of the Republican Party, specifically the role former President Trump should play in its future.”
Polls close at 8 p.m. ET in most of the state, but won’t close statewide until 9 p.m. ET.

Scheme to Reverse 2020 Election Splits Wisconsin GOP
New York Times: “First, Wisconsin Republicans ordered an audit of the 2020 election. Then they passed a raft of new restrictions on voting. And in June, they authorized the nation’s only special counsel investigation into 2020.”
“Now, more than 15 months after former President Donald Trump lost the state by 20,682 votes, an increasingly vocal segment of the Republican Party is getting behind a new scheme: decertifying the results of the 2020 presidential election in hopes of reinstalling Mr. Trump in the White House.”
“Wisconsin is closer to the next federal election than the last, but the Republican effort to overturn the election results here is picking up steam rather than fading away — and spiraling further from reality as it goes.”
The ‘Big Sort’ Continues
Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball: “More than 20% of the nation’s counties gave 80% or more of its 2-party presidential votes to either Donald Trump or Joe Biden.”
“Trump won the vast majority of these counties, but because Biden’s blowout counties are much more populous, he got many more votes out of his ‘super landslide’ counties than Trump got out of his.”
“Trump’s blowouts were concentrated in white, rural counties in the Greater South, Interior West, and Great Plains, while Biden’s were in a smattering of big cities, college towns, and smaller counties with large percentages of heavily Democratic nonwhite voters.”
Giuliani Sought Michigan Voting Machines
“In the weeks after the 2020 election, Rudolph W. Giuliani and other legal advisers to President Donald Trump asked a Republican prosecutor in northern Michigan to get his county’s voting machines and pass them to Trump’s team,” the Washington Post reports.
Marco Rubio, Then and Now
“For years to come, there are many people on the right, in the media and voters at large that are gonna be having to explain and justify how they fell into this trap of supporting Trump, because this is not gonna end well.”
— Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), on CNN, during the 2016 presidential campaign.
“Well, if President Trump runs for reelection, I believe he would defeat Joe Biden, and I don’t want Kamala Harris to have the power as vice president to overturn that election.”
— Rubio, on CBS News over the weekend.
Pence Says He Had No Right to Overturn Election
Former vice president Mike Pence said former president Donald Trump was “wrong” in claiming that Pence could have overturned the results of the 2020 election when he presided over the congressional affirmation of Joe Biden’s electoral college win, the Washington Post reports.
Said Pence: “This week, our former president said I had the right to ‘overturn the election.’ President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election.”
New York Times: “The comments marked the strongest rejection of Mr. Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election by his former vice president.”
Punchbowl News: “This represents as full a break from Trump as possible for Pence. He has said this less empathically over the last 13 months. But it seems Pence has decided this is where he will draw his line now.”
“Let’s be clear though — Pence was never going to win over Trump or the former president’s most fervent supporters after what happened on the day of the Jan. 6 insurrection. So his political future inside a party still dominated by Trump is limited. This is Pence admitting reality and the truth at once.”
Pence To Rebut Trump’s Election Lie Again
“Former Vice President Mike Pence on Friday is expected to rebut, again, claims by Donald Trump that Pence ‘could have overturned the election’ to let Trump remain in power despite having lost in 2020 by more than 7 million votes,” the HuffPost reports.
Memos Expose Alternate Electors Scheme
Two memos prepared weeks after the 2020 election show lawyers for then-President Donald Trump’s campaign plotting to replace electors in swing states where he lost, the New York Times reports.
Trump Wants Inquiry Into Why Pence Didn’t Overturn Vote
Former president Donald Trump called for a new focus for congressional investigators: why then-Vice President Mike Pence did not take steps on Jan. 6, 2021, to reject electoral college votes from several states won by Joe Biden, the Washington Post reports.
Aaron Blake: Trump wants a mulligan on saying Pence should’ve overturned the election.
Democrats Used Dark Money Edge to Beat Trump
New York Times: “Spurred by opposition to then-President Trump, donors and operatives allied with the Democratic Party embraced dark money with fresh zeal, pulling even with and, by some measures, surpassing Republicans in 2020 spending, according to a New York Times analysis of tax filings and other data.”
“The analysis shows that 15 of the most politically active nonprofit organizations that generally align with the Democratic Party spent more than $1.5 billion in 2020 — compared to roughly $900 million spent by a comparable sample of 15 of the most politically active groups aligned with the G.O.P.”
Select Committee Issues Subpoenas Over Fake Electors
“The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol issued subpoenas Friday to more than a dozen people in seven states who tried to submit unofficial slates of electors as part of an effort to overturn the 2020 election in favor of former President Donald Trump,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
13% Think Trump Will Be Reinstated as President
A new Monmouth poll finds that about 1 in 8 Americans believe both that President Biden’s victory was only due to fraud and that there is still a path to overturn those results and reinstate Donald Trump in the Oval Office.
Also interesting: “One-third of Americans continue to believe that Biden’s 2020 victory was the result of voter fraud. In a trend that tests the definition of statistical coincidence, this result has been 32% every time Monmouth has asked this question since November 2020.”
Said pollster Patrick Murray: “The persistence of the ‘big lie’ continues to be a warning sign. It is being fed and nurtured by messages that tout the possibility of overturning the 2020 result even though no such legal mechanism exists.”
Justice Department Reviewing Fake Trump Electors
“The Justice Department is investigating the fake slates of electors that falsely declared Donald Trump the victor of the 2020 election in seven swing states that Joe Biden had in fact won,” the New York Times reports.
“The false certificates appear to have been part of an effort by Mr. Trump’s allies to reverse his defeat in the presidential election. Even as election officials in the seven contested states sent official lists of electors who had voted for Mr. Biden to the Electoral College, the fake slates claimed Mr. Trump was the winner in an apparent bid to subvert the election outcome.”
Judges Greenlight Special Grand Jury In Trump Probe
“A panel of Fulton County judges on Monday cleared the way for a special grand jury to be used as part of District Attorney Fani Willis’ investigation of former President Donald Trump and his efforts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results,” the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
“Special grand juries, which include 16 to 23 people, are rare in Georgia. They can’t issue indictments but can subpoena witnesses and compel the production of documents and information. Unlike regular grand juries, they can be seated for longer than two months and are focused on a singular case.”
