Trump Is Running Out of Time

August 28, 2016 · 9:11 am ET · Leave a Comment

Politico: “His task, GOP insiders readily concede, seems close to impossible. In an interview Wednesday night, Trump’s new campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, recognized how long it may take to improve the public’s negative perceptions of the GOP nominee, likening her turnaround project to turning a tanker.”

“Trump may not have that kind of time. Early voting begins in 28 days in Minnesota and in 32 other states soon after that. And already as summer inches to its end, 90 percent of Americans say they’ve decided. For all the televised daily drama this race has provided, the final outcome itself is shaping up to be less dramatic than any presidential election since 1984.”

Trump Would Deport ‘Criminal Illegal Immigrants’

August 27, 2016 · 7:40 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump sought to reassert control of an immigration story line that has bedeviled his campaign in the last week, telling an Iowa audience that he would deport ‘criminal illegal immigrants’ immediately upon being sworn into office,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Yet the Republican presidential nominee didn’t offer any detail on whether he would abide by his primary-campaign pledge to install a ‘deportation force’ to remove 11 million illegal immigrants from the country. Instead, he blamed the media for focusing on his old campaign promises instead of what he deemed more pressing issues.”

Racial Bias Has Been a Constant for Trump

August 27, 2016 · 12:03 pm ET · Leave a Comment

An investigation by the New York Times — “drawing on decades-old files from the New York City Commission on Human Rights, internal Justice Department records, court documents and interviews with tenants, civil rights activists and prosecutors — uncovered a long history of racial bias at his family’s properties, in New York and beyond.”

“That history has taken on fresh relevance with Mr. Trump arguing that black voters should support him over Hillary Clinton, whom he has called a bigot.”

“While there is no evidence that Mr. Trump personally set the rental policies at his father’s properties, he was on hand while they were in place, working out of a cubicle in Trump Management’s Brooklyn offices as early as the summer of 1968.”

Trump Could Hang Over GOP for Decades

August 27, 2016 · 10:37 am ET · Leave a Comment

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) offered some blunt advice in the New York Times to Republicans: “Distance yourself from Donald Trump.”

He added: “That’s difficult but I think we’ve got to do it if we’re concerned not just about this election but elections to come.”

Otherwise, Flake said, “this will last decades.”

“I try and tell myself it doesn’t matter. Nothing matters. If you tell yourself it doesn’t matter, like you do shows, you do this, you do that and then you have earthquakes in India where 400,000 people get killed. Honestly, it doesn’t matter. That’s how I handle stress.”

— Donald Trump, when asked how he manages stress on Larry King Live in 2004.

Trump Doctor Wrote Letter In Just 5 Minutes

August 26, 2016 · 6:01 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump’s personal physician said he wrote a letter declaring Trump would be the healthiest president in history in just five minutes while a limo sent by the candidate waited outside his Manhattan office,” NBC News reports.

“The letter was written and released in December but has drawn fresh scrutiny in recent days as Trump’s allies have questioned Hillary Clinton’s health, despite a letter from her doctor that said she has no serious issues.”

Trump’s ‘Apprentices’ Had to Agree to Go Nude

August 26, 2016 · 8:29 am ET · Leave a Comment

“Appearing on The Apprentice with Donald Trump required agreeing to a series of odd and invasive demands regarding sex, nudity, and food consumption. According to a copy of an NBC contract reviewed by The Daily Beast, contestants had to agree to be filmed, ‘whether I am clothed, partially clothed or naked, whether I am aware or unaware of such videotaping, filming or recording.'”

“2016 is the first election in American history in which lowbrow entertainment and politics have merged to such a degree that they are nearly indistinguishable. The requirements for The Apprentice contestants, while almost certainly not mandated by Trump himself, underscore just how strange this brave new world is.”

Palin Stands By Trump on Immigration

August 25, 2016 · 10:36 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Sarah Palin said she’s not worried that Donald Trump has gone soft on immigration, saying the GOP nominee “didn’t garner a lot of enthusiastic support by being soft on anything,” Politico reports.

Said Palin: “Donald Trump understands that enforcing the laws and building a wall are paramount to what the will of the people is. Thank God he’s still preaching that, because if he were not, then there would be a huge erosion of support.”

Bush Doesn’t Believe Trump’s Immigration Shift

Jeb Bush told WABC that he doesn’t believe Donald Trump has had a sincere policy evolution on immigration.

Said Bush: “I don’t know what to believe about a guy who doesn’t believe in things. This is all a game. His views will change based on the feedback he gets from a crowd or what he thinks he has to do.”

Trump Attacks Clinton Foundation Though He Donated

August 25, 2016 · 4:16 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Mother Jones: “In another harsh attack on his opponent, Donald Trump at a New Hampshire rally on Thursday accused Hillary Clinton of running a ‘vast criminal enterprise’ that was worse than Watergate, alleging that the Clinton Foundation was part of some sort of pay-to-play scheme while Clinton was secretary of state.”

“Trump did not cite any evidence as he repeated this hyperbolic charge and his supporters shouted ‘lock her up.’ Moreover, Trump did not mention that his own foundation donated at least $110,000 to the Clinton Foundation.”

Clinton to Highlight Trump’s Ties to Alt-Right

August 25, 2016 · 7:09 am ET · Leave a Comment

“No major presidential nominee in recent history has been as openly adored by white nationalists, neo-Nazis and other right-wing extremists as Donald Trump, and on Thursday, Hillary Clinton will make the case that he should be held accountable for their embrace,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

“In a speech in Reno, Clinton will seek to define the insurgent breed of ideology that has fueled Trump’s rise as a dangerous cancer on the nation’s political discourse. She is taking aim at the so-called alt-right movement, a loosely defined and relatively new network of anti-establishment activists on the right that extends from mere outside-the-box protectionist thinkers to flagrantly racist and anti-Semitic hatemongers.”

Trump Not on Minnesota Ballot

August 25, 2016 · 5:46 am ET · Leave a Comment

Donald Trump is not yet on the Minnesota presidential ballot, according to KARE-TV.

As Gateway Pundit notes, the Minnesota Republican party has until August 29 to file but it’s not clear they will have time to file the necessary paperwork.

Update from the Minneapolis Star Tribune: “After hours of ringing alarm bells in national GOP circles over whether Donald Trump is in danger of not getting on Minnesota’s presidential ballot, the Trump campaign says everything is in working order and voters will have a chance to cast their ballot for the brash tycoon in November.”

McMullin Hears Trump ‘Hides In His Apartment’

August 24, 2016 · 8:11 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin told Business Insider Donald Trump’s campaign staffers have told him that the GOP nominee has times where he “hides in his apartment” and they’re growing “frustrated.”

McMullin also said that it’s “unclear” whether Trump “will make it through this campaign.”

He continued: “I’m hearing from people inside his campaign that there are times now when he hides in his apartment and doesn’t meet with any people. When he campaigns he goes out to a place he has to fly back home to New York. This is a fragile man and a fragile campaign and I’m not quite sure what’s going to happen in the days and weeks ahead of him. I’m not sure the RNC can continue to support him given his weakness as a man and as a politician and as a candidate for the presidency.”

Trump Goes Off Script Again

August 24, 2016 · 8:00 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump, after several straight days delivering a more scripted message, loosened the rhetorical shackles tightened by his new campaign manager and went off-script several times Wednesday afternoon, offering a more passionate but at times self-contradicting case for his candidacy,” Politico reports.

“Trump made the same overt appeals to Hispanics and blacks, constituencies that appear to have broadly written him off, as he first did last week. But he again based his sales pitch on a patronizing portrayal of black and Hispanic communities heavy on hyperbole and stereotypes.”

Trump No Longer Has a Credible Path

August 24, 2016 · 5:32 pm ET · Leave a Comment

National Review: “Donald Trump’s presidential campaign slogs on, but he has effectively blown his chances at getting into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. By failing to pivot through his convention, by failing to build a ground team in important states, and by failing to reassure voters uneasy with his primary rhetoric, Trump has killed his campaign. The result: His numbers with college-educated voters and blacks have dropped dramatically, effectively locking him out of states such as Florida, Ohio, and, yes, Pennsylvania.”
