Bolton Won’t Comment on Impeachment
Former National Security Adviser John Bolton, who referred to the White House pressure campaign on Ukraine as a “drug deal,” declined to comment about impeachment during an interview with NPR.
Said Bolton: “There’s obviously a lot swirling around in that department, including some litigation that could affect my status, so I think although I have a lot to say on the subject, the prudent course for me is just to decline to comment at this point.”
What Schiff Wants from the White House
“Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) wants to see the documents being concealed by the White House even more than he wants to hear from the list of current and former aides who followed President Trump’s order not to testify during the investigation that led to his impeachment,” the Washington Post reports.
Said Schiff: “The few messages we did get were remarkably incriminating. So you can only imagine, if this is what the small sample of documents that we have shows, just how damning many of the other documents the administration refuses to turn over may be.”
DNC Raises Bar for January Debate
The DNC announced requirements to qualify for the January debate in Iowa.
Candidates must have at least 225,000 donors and reach 5% in at least four national or early state polls. Candidates can also qualify by reaching 7% in just two early state polls.
Based on these standards, Axios reports that only Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar would currently make the debate. Tom Steyer and Andrew Yang, who took part in last night’s debate, have not yet met the polling requirement.

Cook Political Report: “A year into this election cycle, the overall Senate landscape generally looks much like I thought it would. The races that seemed likely to be the most competitive are, in fact, the most competitive today. And, if the race ratings don’t quite reflect it yet, Democrats appear to have expanded the playing field enough to put Republicans’ majority at risk.”

The day after the House impeachment vote, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told Fox News that President Trump was “mad as hell that they would do this to him and now deny him his day in court.”

Democratic Lawmaker Caught In Campaign Finance Probe
The House Ethics Committee said it is conducting a further probe of Rep. Lori Trahan (D-MA) after investigators found “substantial reason to believe” she violated campaign finance laws in her upset election victory in 2018, the Boston Globe reports.
“Investigators with the Office of Congressional Ethics found that her husband donated $300,000 to her campaign — far in excess of the $2,700 allowed — and her campaign appears to have ‘intentionally misreported’ the days some donations were made as part of its apparent financial maneuvering.”

Economy Gets Best Marks In Two Decades
A new CNN poll finds the U.S. economy earns its highest ratings in almost two decades, potentially boosting President Trump in matchups against the Democrats vying to face him in next year’s election.
“Overall, 76% rate economic conditions in the U.S. today as very or somewhat good, significantly more than those who said so at this time last year (67%). This is the highest share to say the economy is good since February 2001, when 80% said so.”
The match ups: Joe Biden leads Trump nationally 49% to 44%, while Bernie Sanders tops Trump 49% to 45%. Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg each run about even with the president.
GOP Lawmaker Accused of Domestic Terrorism
A report produced for the Washington state legislature found state Rep. Matthew Shea (R) “participated in an act of domestic terrorism against the United States” and represents a threat of political violence.
The report also said Shea “advocated the replacement of U.S. democracy with a theocracy and the killing of all males who do not agree.”
The Spokane Spokesman-Review reports Republicans expelled Shea from their caucus.
Shea responded with characteristic defiance, writing on Facebook: “Like we are seeing with our President this is a sham investigation meant to silence those of us who stand up against attempts to disarm and destroy our great country. I will not back down, I will not give in, I will not resign. Stand strong fellow Patriots.”
