Chaffetz Seeks Charges Against Clinton Aide

February 16, 2017 · 7:37 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, is seeking criminal charges against a former State Department employee who helped set up Hillary Clinton’s private email server, the AP reports.

Chaffetz  sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions “asking him to convene a grand jury or charge Bryan Pagliano, the computer specialist who helped establish Clinton’s server while she was secretary of state.”

Why It Looks Like Clinton Will Run Again

February 12, 2017 · 9:03 am ET · Leave a Comment

Matt Latimer: “No inside information informs this prediction. No argument is advanced as to whether her run is a good or a bad idea—there are many ways to make a case either way. Instead this is just a statement of simple facts (if facts mean anything anymore, that is). And the facts are clear that the former secretary of state is doing everything she needs to do to run for the White House one more time. If she finds a path to do so, she will take it. And I can prove it.”

“Yes, barring some calamity, Clinton is running. And this brave columnist will go one step further. Not only will Clinton will run again, she has an excellent shot at getting the Democratic Party nomination again. But only if she approaches it quite differently.”

Hillary Clinton is working on a book of personal essays that will come out this fall, the AP reports.

“The book, still untitled, is structured around hundreds of favorite quotations that have inspired her. The publisher said Clinton will use the quotes to ‘tell stories from her life, up to and including her experiences in the 2016 presidential campaign’ and into her thoughts on the future.”

Clinton Would Crush de Blasio If She Ran

January 18, 2017 · 1:05 pm ET · Leave a Comment

A new Quinnipiac poll finds that in “a very hypothetical race” for New York City Mayor, Hillary Clinton, running as an independent, would beat incumbent Bill de Blasio (D) handily, 49% to 30%.

Said pollster Tim Malloy: “New Yorkers aren’t in love with Mayor Bill de Blasio, but they seem to like him better than other possible choices – except Hillary Clinton, who probably is an impossible choice.”

Would Hillary Clinton Run for Mayor?

January 6, 2017 · 7:06 am ET · Leave a Comment

New York Times: “The prospect has an obvious, novelistic allure: A run for mayor of New York this year would pit Mrs. Clinton against Mayor Bill de Blasio, a fellow Democrat who managed her Senate campaign in 2000, and, should she win, would put her in charge of President-elect Donald Trump’s hometown, ensuring years of potential clashes between bitter rivals.”

“While the answer would almost certainly be no, supporters of Mrs. Clinton and former members of her staff appear to have been happy to let the speculation spread from closed-door gatherings of donors and allies, where it has been discussed among the many hypothetical future jobs Ms. Clinton might pursue, to more public forums.”

Bill and Hillary Clinton Will Attend Inauguration

January 3, 2017 · 2:39 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“Bill and Hillary Clinton have decided to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States,” New York Magazine reports.

Politico: “The news comes as former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura also announced Tuesday that they will be attending the inauguration. Both former presidents, who are offered tickets to all inaugurations, had put off the decision about whether attend until the new year. Neither supported Trump’s election.”

“Watching a rival sworn in from up close has happened several times in American politics, including when outgoing vice presidents Richard Nixon in 1961 and Al Gore in 2001 watched from the risers as the men who had beaten them for the presidency raised their hands for the oath of office.”

Ex-Lawmaker Blasts Clinton for Being Too Insular

Former Rep. George Miller (D-CA) chastised the strategy of Hillary Clinton’s campaign, which he called an “insular group of people who were smoking one another’s exhaust,” the East Bay Times reports.

Said Miller: “We didn’t go to Wisconsin at the end of the campaign because they’re always with us? Michigan, where you saved the automobile industry and tens of thousands of jobs and you never went to tell them about it?”

He added: “You never get to that point in my mind in politics. You have to renew those contacts and relationships and that trust all the time.”

Hillary 2020?

December 13, 2016 · 11:02 am ET · Leave a Comment

Rick Klein: “Let’s agree to put a pause on all such talk until at least the inauguration. But how else to explain her campaign operation’s decision – five weeks after a decisive Electoral College loss – to encourage electors be allowed to get classified intelligence briefings on the extent of Russian interference? Reverence for Alexander Hamilton notwithstanding, the Clinton team knows that exerting independent judgment is not what the Electoral College does. Those involved also know there’s no mechanism for gathering 538 individuals scattered across 51 jurisdictions into an intelligence briefing, much less getting them the required security clearances before they cast their votes next week.”

“John Podesta’s statement in support of a briefing for electors marks the most aggressive attempt by Clinton aides to call the election’s results into question. It carries far more weight than support for recounts, in the statement’s implications. As for the politics, why have the Clinton operation on record in this way unless Hillary Clinton herself wants to be in the political mix moving forward? And in the short term, is anyone happier that this story is morphed into a political one than Donald Trump, who prefers these grapes taste sour?”

Clinton Thank You Event Leaves Some Grumbling

December 8, 2016 · 7:05 am ET · Leave a Comment

Washington Post: “Hillary Clinton’s first major political event since her defeat last month will be a thank-you party for those really, really big donors — the people who brought in many hundreds of thousands of dollars for her unsuccessful Democratic presidential bid — Democrats familiar with the lavish event said Wednesday.”

“Invitations to the party went out last week, and the remaining staff of the Clinton campaign has been fielding complaints ever since from donors who were not included. Some donors were told that the size of the party was dictated by the space constraints of the ballroom, people familiar with the event said.”

Trump Will Not Pursue Investigations Into Clinton

November 22, 2016 · 9:22 am ET · Leave a Comment

Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway told MSNBC that President-elect Donald Trump will not pursue any investigations into Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server and the Clinton Foundation.

Said Conway: “I think when the president-elect, who’s also the head of your party now, Joe, tells you before he’s even inaugurated he doesn’t wish to pursue these charges it sends a very strong message, tone, and content to the members… If Donald Trump can help her heal then, perhaps, that’s a good thing.”

Clinton Campaign Undone by Arrogance

November 16, 2016 · 5:25 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Huffington Post: “For months, the Clinton campaign had banked on a wide army of volunteer organizers to help corral independents and Democratic leaners and re-energize a base not particularly enthused about the election. But they were volunteers. And as anecdotal data came back to offices in key battlegrounds, concern mounted that leadership had skimped on a critical campaign function.”

“Several theories have been proffered to explain just what went wrong for the Clinton campaign in an election that virtually everyone expected the Democratic nominee to win. But lost in the discussion is a simple explanation, one that was re-emphasized to HuffPost in interviews with several high-ranking officials and state-based organizers: The Clinton campaign was harmed by its own neglect.”

Said one senior state operative: “It was arrogance, arrogance that they were going to win. That this was all wrapped up.”

Clinton Lost Election In the Suburbs

November 16, 2016 · 1:19 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Amy Walter: “The media has paid a lot of attention throughout the campaign and afterward on rural and working-class white America. Not nearly as much attention has been spent on suburban America, whose college-educated white voters (especially white women) were supposed to provide Hillary Clinton a bulwark to big losses among the white working class. Instead, these voters abandoned Clinton too. Mitt Romney carried the suburbs by 2 points — Trump carried them by 5 points.”

“The theory held by the Clinton campaign was that Clinton would make up for losses in rural, white America with gains in suburban America among white voters who were turned off by Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric, lack of presidential timbre and temperament and sexist behavior brought to light by the Access Hollywood tape.”

“Yet, in looking at the results of highly-educated suburban counties, it’s clear that those voters didn’t turn out for Clinton with the fervor that the rural white voters did for Trump.”

Series of Strategic Mistakes Cost Clinton Election

November 12, 2016 · 8:30 am ET · Leave a Comment

Washington Post: “One error was to stick with a long-standing, one-dimensional campaign strategy: attacking Donald Trump. That strategy had been devised despite overwhelming evidence, not only in Trump’s rise but also in Clinton’s struggles during the Democratic primary against Bernie Sanders, that the electorate was looking for political and economic change.”

“Another problem, some said, was to devote resources in states Clinton did not need to win — notably Arizona — instead of shoring up support in deep-blue states, notably the Rust Belt, that she did need.”
