Steyer Turns Up Heat on Democrats to Impeach Trump

February 8, 2019 at 7:12 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Billionaire Tom Steyer is cranking up pressure on key House Democrats to impeach President Donald Trump where he thinks they’ll feel it most — back in their home districts. Steyer’s first targets are three powerful committee chairmen, Richard Neal (D-MA), Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and Elijah Cummings (D-MD),” Politico reports.

“But the liberal megadonor isn’t stopping there: He will soon turn his attention to rank-and-file members seated on the committees that would be involved in impeachment proceedings, including freshmen.”

Steyer Turns Up Heat on Powerful House Chairman

February 4, 2019 at 4:59 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Billionaire Tom Steyer, who heads a group trying to impeach President Trump, “launched a television ad buy targeting Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA) in his own backyard as part of an effort to get the House Ways and Means chairman to subpoena the president’s tax returns,” Politico reports.

Steyer is trying to “pressure Neal into action, and plans to hire paid staff and launch a door-to-door canvassing effort in the congressman’s district.”

Steyer Won’t Run for President

January 9, 2019 at 4:09 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Tom Steyer, the California billionaire who has crusaded for President Trump’s impeachment, said on Wednesday that he would not join the pack of Democrats running for president in 2020 and would instead redouble his efforts to topple Mr. Trump before the election,” the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Steyer intends to spend at least $40 million on impeachment efforts in the coming year — money that might otherwise have been directed toward a campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.”

Best case: endless spam and creepy targeted ads.

Worst case: scammers obtain your data through broker breaches, leading to identity theft and financial fraud.

You can’t stop data brokers — but you can make them delete your information.

Incogni does the work for you — contacting brokers and demanding removal of your personal data, including from hard-to-clean People Search sites.

Steyer Seeks Aides for Possible 2020 Run

December 12, 2018 at 3:23 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Tom Steyer, the Democratic billionaire who has paid for television ads calling for the impeachment of President Trump, is also considering a run for president himself. And he is taking a novel approach to staffing up a potential campaign for 2020: An anonymous LinkedIn page advertising ‘state director’ jobs in three of the first four states that will kick off the nominating contest,” the New York Times reports.

“Nowhere is Mr. Steyer’s name mentioned in the posting. But the language and structure matches verbatim those of job opportunities listed with one of Mr. Steyer’s other political efforts, NextGen America.”

“That will include a six-figure web ad buy on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram, along with a full-page ad in USA Today and other Gannett newspapers outlining a political platform, a revamped TomSteyer.com and the announcement of five town halls across the country, the first of which will be in the crucial early primary state of South Carolina.”

Trump Attacks Tom Steyer

October 28, 2018 at 3:48 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump lashed out at billionaire Democratic activist Tom Steyer, ridiculing him as a “stumbling lunatic” days after Steyer was targeted by one of more than a dozen pipe bombs sent to prominent critics of the president, the Washington Post reports.

Said Trump: “Just watched Wacky Tom Steyer, who I have not seen in action before, be interviewed by Jake Tapper. He comes off as a crazed and stumbling lunatic who should be running out of money pretty soon. As bad as their field is, if he is running for President, the Dems will eat him alive!”

Steyer to Spend Millions Backing Gillum in Florida

September 25, 2018 at 6:31 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Tom Steyer, the billionaire investor and Democratic activist, has directed his political operation to spend more than $5 million aiding Andrew Gillum’s campaign for governor of Florida, an enormous investment that will test whether fired-up Democratic voters can flip control of a state long dominated by Republicans,” the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Steyer said in an interview that he would spend more money in Florida this fall than any other state. He endorsed Mr. Gillum in the Democratic primary, and hailed him as a model for the national Democratic Party.”

“This is the group’s biggest voter registration effort yet, focused specifically on the most crucial bloc of non-voters, and it’s happening just three months before the 2018 midterm election.”

August 13, 2018 at 1:08 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Billionaire Tom Steyer “plans to spend an additional $10 million on helping Democrats take control of the House by attempting to drive up turnout among infrequent voters motivated by the idea of impeaching President Trump,” Bloomberg reports.

“That will be on top of $110 million Steyer has already pledged for the November elections through his two political organizations.”

Steyer now has an email list of 5.5 million voters, with an average of 10,000 names per congressional district.

Steyer Will Spend $110 Million to Redefine Democrats

July 31, 2018 at 7:07 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Tom Steyer has set plans to spend at least $110 million in 2018, making the billionaire investor the largest single source of campaign cash on the left and placing him on a path to create a parallel party infrastructure with polling, analytics and staffing capabilities that stand to shape and define the issues the party runs on in November,” Politico reports.

“Steyer is building out an operation that’s bigger than anyone other than the Koch Brothers — and the billionaire and his aides believe the reservoir of non-traditional voters he’s already activated could become the overriding factor in House and other races across the country. Yet Steyer’s oversized role also stands to position him squarely against Democratic Party leadership, which has shown little appetite this fall for pursuing one of his signature causes: impeachment.”

Tom Steyer Keeps Spending In Effort to Oust Trump

April 28, 2018 at 1:17 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Bloomberg: “Steyer isn’t the first to claim there are grounds for booting Trump from office, but his enormous pools of wealth, outrage, and ambition mean he can do more than the members of Congress responsible for impeachment proceedings: He can spend the money required to stoke a fire and fan its flames until a real chance to burn down the administration presents itself. Thus far, he’s pledged about $40 million for Need to Impeach and an additional $30 million to get millennials into voting booths in November.”

“He views himself as the leader of a movement to deliver America from evil—not one of those billionaires who cut checks merely to buy influence in Washington. Never mind that Steyer spent more on disclosed donations during the 2014 and 2016 election cycles than anyone else.”

Tom Steyer Is Building a Political Death Star

March 29, 2018 at 10:39 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Daily Beast: “Ask a professional Democrat for his or her opinion on billionaire political donor Tom Steyer, and the answer you often get is a variation of the following: Why would someone with so much money spend it all on a fruitless attempt to impeach Donald Trump?”

“Press them for their thoughts in private, however, and many concede that the man funding a $40 million campaign to get rid of the current president is not just a gifted self-promoter, but is, in fact, building one of the true powerhouse entities within the Democratic ecosystem. Steyer is poised to play a massive role in the midterms and pull the party in the direction of his choosing. He’s also set himself up incredibly well—perhaps better than any other potential aspirant—for a serious presidential bid in 2020.”

Said one Democratic strategist: “If I were a rich person and I wanted to run for president. I would be doing exactly what he’s doing.”

Steyer Will Not Run for Office In 2018

January 8, 2018 at 11:12 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Democratic donor Tom Steyer, who has spent more than $100 million since 2016 on political campaigns, will forgo any run for office this year and focus instead on ending Republican control of the House of Representatives,” the Washington Post reports.

Said Steyer: “I’ve said all along, the question I always ask is: Where can I make the most differential impact? And when I look at the jobs I can run for in California, they all have reputable Democrats running for them already.”

“Steyer’s decision removes some of the drama from California’s races for governor and U.S. Senate, which had attracted ambitious Democrats who had been wanting to move up for years.”

Impeachment Drive Builds Digital Army to Oppose Trump

December 27, 2017 at 5:02 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“When billionaire Democratic donor Tom Steyer launched a digital petition drive to impeach President Trump two months ago, some Democratic Party leaders dismissed it as an unhelpful vanity project — and even Steyer thought he’d top out at a million signatures,” Politico reports.

“But nearly 4 million digital signatures later, the philanthropist and environmental activist’s unlikely campaign has seized on an issue — impeaching Trump — that could become part of the Democratic mainstream in 2018. It’s placed at his fingertips a potentially powerful tool: an email list of millions of motivated activists whom he can reach instantly for organizing and fundraising and that could become the hottest trove of data in Democratic politics since the email list that Bernie Sanders’ insurgent campaign against Hillary Clinton collected in 2016.”

Steyer Expands Focus to Take on Trump

February 1, 2017 at 8:21 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Tom Steyer “will expand the focus of his environmental political advocacy group, NextGen Climate Action, to fund initiatives and candidates with an eye to issues well beyond the realm of climate change,” BuzzFeed reports.

“The 59-year-old Steyer, a San Francisco hedge fund manager and possible contender for next year’s California governor’s race, said he made the decision to broaden his reach in response to Trump and to a legislative agenda he described as ‘deplorable’ and ‘a barrage against the basic fabric of American society.'”
