Ken Martin Is Open to Change at the DNC

August 14, 2026 · 7:12 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“Ken Martin struck a defiant pose at the Democratic National Committee’s summer meeting here this week, blowing past criticism of his tenure as he rallied DNC members still largely supportive of his leadership,” NOTUS reports.

“But privately, the DNC chair is signalling he’s open to a more conciliatory approach.”

“Martin has suggested in recent weeks that he is receptive to changes at the DNC, including potentially overhauling how the committee raises money and conducts day-to-day operations. The people each described Martin’s openness as a shift from his previous resistance, and an implicit acknowledgment that he needed to do something to quell the widespread criticism of his first year and a half in charge of the DNC.”

Hasan Piker Begs Establishment Democrats to Defend Him

August 14, 2026 · 2:12 pm ET · Leave a Comment

“Highly controversial progressive streamer Hasan Piker demanded establishment Democrats come to his defense this week, warning that the GOP will weaponize him to the detriment of the left as a whole,” Mediaite reports.

Said Piker: “I know we don’t always see eye to eye on a lot of stuff, but you have to, literally, at some point—I know you don’t want to do this—defend me.”

He added: “Not because you love what I have to say, not because I’m a part of this coalition, even though I am, whether you like it or not, but you are going to inevitably have to say, ‘This is a ridiculous conversation that we’re having,’ because the real conversation that Republicans don’t wanna have is the cost of living crisis. That requires you, at some point, to basically take the L a little bit, okay, and maybe be a little more honest about how I’m not this dangerous, toxic, radical force.”

What Britain Can Teach Democrats About the Ultra-Left

August 13, 2026 · 9:30 am ET · Leave a Comment

The Economist: “Neil Kinnock is best known in America as the man whose oratory Joe Biden plagiarised. In 1987 Mr Biden was so taken by the British Labour Party leader’s line about being the first of his family ‘in a thousand generations’ to attend college that he borrowed it. At first, with due credit. Then, on television, without. The ensuing furore helped sink Mr Biden’s first run for the presidency.”

“Yet Lord Kinnock, as he is now known, is not just the man who condemned Mr Biden to another 21 gruelling years in the Senate. He also helped make Britain’s main centre-left party electable again, by purging hard-left extremists who had infiltrated it. His story is one the Democratic Party could usefully study.”

August 13, 2026 · 6:15 am ET · Leave a Comment

“Democrats are gathering to finalize their 2028 presidential primary calendar this week, setting the stage for a wide open contest to succeed President Donald Trump and chart a path ahead as the party’s voters oscillate between progressive and more moderate candidates,” the Associated Press reports.

“The Democratic National Committee is expected to vote at its summer meeting in Austin, Texas, on the new order that frontloads states with more diverse populations.”

Midwesterners Show the Limits of the Far-Left

August 12, 2026 · 9:14 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “The ascendant far-left is hitting turbulence in the Midwest, where voters are showing that the big victories they have had in deep blue pockets of the country are much tougher to secure in purple areas. While progressives have been gaining ground in races across the country, the mixed results show that there are limits on the movement and its appeal outside of major cities.”

“It also serves as the latest reminder that the continuing debate over the Democratic Party’s identity is still raging.”

Democrats Are Making Clear They Just Want Change

August 12, 2026 · 12:28 pm ET · Leave a Comment

Associated Press: “Democrats remain mixed over what ideological direction the party should take. But across a series of closely watched primaries, they are sending a clearer message about the party’s path forward: They want change…”

“The results so far this month deliver no clear ideological mandate. Instead, they add to mounting evidence from this year’s primaries of an Democratic appetite for turnover that is cutting across the party’s traditional divisions.”

Wisconsin Democrats Opt for Electability

August 12, 2026 · 9:02 am ET · Leave a Comment

Charlie Sykes: “The vote was close, but the verdict unmistakable: DSA candidate Francesca Hong — she of ‘cancel Thanksgiving’ fame — was defeated by her normie challenger, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, despite her having led in polls by double digits.”

“In other words…”

“Wisconsin Democrats stared into the electoral abyss and decided, on second thought, they would rather actually win elections than take a chance on what David Axelrod memorably called ‘zany liberal, faculty lounge exotica.'”

The Far Left Hits a Wall

August 12, 2026 · 6:50 am ET · Leave a Comment

“Democratic socialist Francesca Hong’s stunning loss in Wisconsin’s Democratic gubernatorial primary Tuesday night revealed limits to the far left’s power — and is undercutting the narrative of an emerging insurgency,” Politico reports.

“While progressive Peggy Flanagan cruised by 20 points in Minnesota’s Senate primary, and last week the further left Abdul El-Sayed squeaked through his Senate race in Michigan, Hong, the furthest left of the three, received no major national support and fell short.”

“For a movement that had been riding high off a string of primary victories this cycle, including the Democratic Socialists of America’s recent wins in New York and Colorado, the deflating Wisconsin result led to an immediate round of finger-pointing on the far left.”

NOTUS: The Democratic establishment strikes back in Wisconsin.

The Latest House Democrat Generational Battle

August 11, 2026 · 11:30 am ET · Leave a Comment

“A congressional primary in Connecticut on Tuesday provides one of the clearest tests yet of Democratic voters’ desire for generational change in the party,” the Washington Post reports.

“Former Hartford mayor Luke Bronin, 47, is waging the latest rebellion against an entrenched incumbent, John B. Larson, who is 78 and running for his 15th term. But Bronin and Larson are ideologically similar, unlike other primaries pitting young liberals against older centrists, leaving age and experience as their primary differentiators.”

Will the Left Keep Winning in the Midwest?

August 11, 2026 · 5:59 am ET · Leave a Comment

“The Democratic Party’s ascendant left flank, looking to build on its success in Michigan last week, faces fresh tests in two primaries in the Midwest on Tuesday,” the New York Times reports.

“A democratic socialist appears to be clearly ahead in the governor’s race in Wisconsin, and a progressive is facing off against a moderate in an expensive Senate race in Minnesota. Wisconsin, like Michigan, is a closely watched national battleground.”

“On the Republican side, President Trump’s choice to succeed Senator Lindsey Graham in South Carolina — Mr. Graham’s younger sister, Darline Graham — is running in a special primary election against four more experienced rivals. Despite Mr. Trump’s endorsement, a runoff is likely in the crowded race.”

“Democrats inside and outside Wisconsin are anxious about Tuesday’s primary election in the battleground state. Their worries can be summarized in two words: Francesca Hong,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The 37-year-old state representative and part-time bartender, a dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America, has led in polls ahead of the final day of balloting for the Democratic nomination for governor in a race that has been one this year’s most chaotic.”

Joe Scarborough Says Democrats Are ‘Fumbling’ Again

August 10, 2026 · 11:45 am ET · Leave a Comment

“Joe Scarborough slammed Democrats for refusing to denounce the extremist views of some of the party’s most contentious figures this year, arguing that the political party is ‘fumbling the football at the two-yard line’ just like it did in 2024,” The Wrap reports.

Said Scarborough: “The Democratic Party has a choice to make. I said this day-in and day-out leading up to Kamala Harris’ election. You couldn’t watch an NFL game without seeing 300 ‘Taxpayers are going to pay for trans surgeries for convicts’ ads on NFL games.”

He added: “Even though they still pretend that did not move viewers, I think the Trump campaign spent $30 million on those ads, and it moved working class men, working class white men, working class Black men, working class Hispanic men.”

Fetterman Says El-Sayed Has Put Senate Seat in Play

August 10, 2026 · 9:14 am ET · Leave a Comment

“Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) warned that Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed could cost his party a must-hold Michigan Senate seat,” the New York Post reports.

Said Fetterman: “He has put, you know, that seat in play. And after Bernie Sanders and others created the disaster in Maine, and they pushed garbage person like Platner, and now they’ve pushed an individual like El-Sayed that’s been very proud of his very deeply anti-Israel views and proud to campaign with an avowed communist overall.”

He added: “He just has like this weird little man syndrome energy just going around insulting people. And, you know, that’s the kind of campaign that he’s run.”

”The latest clash erupted after Pelosi and her allies publicly blasted Scott Wiener’s campaign last week over an AI-powered chatbot imitating her preferred successor, San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan, calling the bot ‘sexist’ and a source of ‘harmful racial tropes that echo Trump birtherism.'”

AOC Says Millennials Are Reshaping the Electorate

August 9, 2026 · 10:57 am ET · Leave a Comment

“Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said Sunday a ‘generational tidal wave’ of millennial voters is reshaping the electorate in the wake of recent primary elections,” ABC News reports.

Said Ocasio-Cortez: “Millennials are not punk kids anymore. We’re grown adults with mortgages and kids, and that generation is starting to be decisive at the polls, and there is anger at being ignored, sidelined, having our economic futures mortgaged by the generations that came before us on everything from the economy to climate, and we’re taking the reins.”

CNBC: Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t “ruled out” running for president or Senate in 2028.
